Game just out of the blue stopped me from joining a game, it starts loading, then it starts loading the menu again like it does after a match finished and comes up with the error "diconnected from game server. I've tried restarting the game and even my PC but the problem remained. I am a bit bewildered as to what has caused it.

My recommendation for you would be to run the MWO Repair Tool first.
Launch the MWO game client and follow these steps:
Step 1. - Click on those three lines.
Step 2. - Click "Run MWO Repair Tool"

did a file validation in steam all fixed now.
