So, I really love how many decals are in the game, on every level there is. It's done wonders for my mild obsession with replicating camospecs from BattleTech canon and imagining my own takes on some of the units that have been around in the verse.

However, while there's absolutely no way to reasonably expect every single unique insignia from every single unit in the BattleTech universe gets into the game – I recognize there are seriously too many for that to be feasible – I am curious about why one of the most notable SLDF units in the setting didn't get their insignia in.

I of course have my very strong suspicions, given exactly what that insignia is and who the unit is. Posted Image But I am curious about getting an official answer in case it's not what I expect. I've been putting Cameron Stars on my Black Watch-styled 'Mechs, which is about as close as one is going to get given the context.

You can post your suggestion in this thread: Do You Have Any Decal Suggestions?

But PGI simply does not bother.

After all, PGI offers liveries of various Inner Sphere and Clan units without bothering to create appropriate decals. For example, you can buy the Free Worlds Legions livery, but you can not buy the Free Worlds Legions insignia decal to go with that livery. Posted Image

Wait, what? They don’t have Marik decals? But I thought they had all the Successor State insignias… They’ve got several of the Clans.

I’ll have to look again because I swear I saw the Marik insignia, but you’re right that the set is vastly incomplete as far as individual units go…

I admittedly never heard of the Free Worlds Legionnaires and took the Marik livery to be representative of all Marik units in PGI’s take on the camospecs, but they really should have that unit’s decal. I noticed they don’t have the Davion Brigade of Guards insignia either; I had to substitute with a similar insignia from a different FedSun unit when reproducing Hanse’s BattleMaster livery.

Yeah, PGI offers some distorted version of the Free Worlds League insignia.

Exactly. PGI has created decals for some obscure units, but not for the units whose livery PGI offers in their own Mechlab.

Funny Story.....

We do have a Black Watch insignia in game, of course it's the one only given to the 12 members of the "Black Watch" Team that was at MWOWC 2017.

Posted Image

Also we did have our own Merc Unit logos in the game too!

However they were all removed due to only 1 unit (out of 32) complaining they wouldn't get money for it back in Oct 2016. (Something about they wanted to keep creative control of "THEIR" work in PGI's commercial and marketing purposes | AKA They wanted a cut)

So yea, as you can see above the 228th IBR's logo is just a Cameron Star on an Iron Cross, so we have to waste about 5-6 decal slots just to make our logo in game.

*sigh* what could have been....

At least the Panicbutton executioner is forever immortalized:

When they re-did Polar Highlands, they should've put a dead executioner in the middle somewhere.

There was a petition to have something added, last time it was discussed Matt Newman did say he would look at something being placed there (much like the famous "Pickle Factory").

Well, that looks nothing like the Black Watch insignia I'm familiar with, but it's a shame to hear that it's gone either way.

I guess that the OP was interested in this insignia:

Martian nailed it.

It’s no secret that the Royal Black Watch Regiment is a fictionalization of the real life Black Watch, which has gone by a few different names throughout history and is an infantry battalion in the British Army, present day. They have the same motto, and the same insignia. It’s one of the only notable units in the BattleTech universe to have come from the real world, for better or worse.

It’s precisely why I have suspicions as to why it wasn’t put in a long time ago. I don’t know if it’s a matter of whether they won’t, or can’t put it in, even in a stylized manner. lol

Adding new decals is not the PGI's priority task.

Maybe not, but that hasn’t stopped them making new decals anyway. I can at least hope that more unit decals get in than there currently are, especially those of more notable units like the Black Watch, or those for whom the livery exists in-game already like the Free Worlds Legionnaires.

Well, until PGI adds the Royal Black Watch badge, you can use the Northwind Highlanders insignia as a placeholder on your 'Mechs. Posted Image
