Everybody liking 8vs8, group players.
Everybody hating 8vs8, single players.

So i hate it.
Unannounced change in gameplay,
on a weekend,
during an event,
making groups even stronger,
increasing stomps (would have never believed this is even possible),
because MM is not existend leaving me with TIER 5 players in Assaults doing less than 100 damage.

But you know what, after 8 years i´m not even mad anymore. Not even disappointed or surprised. That´s how low my expectations of PGI are now.

So much drama...

After I was rather skeptical at first, I had a lot of fun with 8 against 8. But I also found that slower Mechs like heavys or Assaults were almost useless, so I could not actually use two thirds of my fleet anymore. I'm quite happy if maybe 8 against 8 times is still an option but 12 against 12 remains the normal case.

If nothing else this has demonstrated that most posters do not know how to use less vs fewer.

1 vs 8 isn't a game... cause the rest of my teams are usually:
  • slow
  • uncoordinated
  • haven't a clue in general about game modes
  • must have skipped cadet training
  • have no clue about targeting
  • have no clue about arm lock toggling
And if anyone says I don't know how to do more with less... :D *yes, me laughing at that*

Just give us X vs Y quick play, based on some rough tonnage or other category formula so that neither team knows how many enemies they're facing beforehand.

I have been playing about 15 matches 8 v. 8 so far and have experienced drastic improvements in teamplay and most matches were very balanced. Love it so far :-)

Not a fan of this, I'd rather see 16 v 16 or 20 v 20. The maps beg for more peoples and MWO is at it's best when the match is a complete cluster. Don't take away the option for 12 v 12 plz, cool events tho.

Dear PGI

Thank You for trying something new. That is refreshing.

That said. The game is supposed to be fun. When You have allowed 4 man premades in the que it is not fun when dropping solo. I have lost an entire tier 1 lv getting stomped by a premade (4 man JGX for example). Then the game is not fun. It does not matter what mech or loadout I bring, how hard i focus on the match or my skill level. As a solo player I am just food for the sharks, it is not fun to play the game. No fun = no money from me as a customer.

Please dont ever do this again.

Don't really like it... too easily skewed to teams with better players/teams leading to quick end to matches and bad beats/one-sided matches. Plus any player afk or discon in the team means chances of losing are much higher.

12v12 and more... consider upping to 18v18 or 24v24. IMHO, I'm a casual player and it will be a lot more fun to play in a crazy messy battlefield.

Someone suggested a rotation of group sizes for different weeks. Could be a good option to change up the game for variety. E.g. week1: 24v24, week2: 18v18, week3: 12v12, week4: 8v8

At first I really hated 8v8 when dropping in as a Solo player. 3-4man group lances do have more of a presence but it is a mute argument as both teams generally will drop with groups. The biggest issue I notice so far is tonnage doesn’t scale right even when running with a four man lance. A group running 4 is reduced to just medium mechs significantly lowering the tonnage for the entire team. Not necessarily a bad handicap given group coordination advantage from having played a long time as a unit. But this idea that unit groups impacts the game is mute with every player able to voice communicate and coordinate. The teams that do this most effectively win plain and simple. What people are really bitching about is 8v8 basically threw the LRM and PPC meta right out the door as four man light mech groups are now more free to flank and chew *** which having an extra lance help avoid somewhat. Is it perfect no but the game feel more like a battle of bots with these intense brawling fights. It forces players to adapt more quickly and not give them the luxury of hanging back. My biggest complaint is that conquest doesn’t work as a game mode in 8v8 and dropping solo means the objective gamers loose the match because they haven’t figured out that the team that stays together and shoots together wins together. That is why most people hate unit groups dropping in any match matching. Anyways keep up the good work PGI. I am definitely curious where this franchise goes from here as well as this game. Also as far as player skill being skewed bc of unit player dropping together, it can and does have impact to the lower tier matches. That said it is a mute argument the higher you go up in tier as by then the game has vetted out a lot of players based on skills. Once again a lot of players have advanced in the sniper LRM meta and are now having to adapt and think that is where the true thorn is.

I don't think we have been playing the same game... 0-8 stomps in either direction were the flavor or over half the "games" I was in today....

It's cute coming after my intelligence. Unfortunately your point of view is not complicated, so no need for further explanation, I know everything I need to know.

Everybody coming after me over dragging the quitters:

What everybody really wants is an improved matchmaker that takes more into account. Unbalanced matches ruin the game, and 8v8s increase the likelihood of that, BUT with better team balance, they also offer some significant gameplay benefits.

I don't know why u always force something and then other things!

Put them all as a choice or Linear adage or reduce throught the month!

1 week 16
2 week 14
3 week 12
4 week 10
5 week 8

or Vice versa.

Anybody has to bring his strength and all get what they want!

And you can also have data in ANY KIND you want damn it! You can then even make sex with the data you collected ... if you are of that kind!

:P

Anyway, I like it, but not every match!

I'd be fine with this as an event queue thing, but not as a change to main QP

So after a couple of days the only advantage to 8v8 for me is that it has improved conquest alot. I have not experienced any shorter wait times and when you get a drop its an average of 3 to 5 mins game time about the same as the wait time to drop . It has become a brawl and its the team with the least AFK or the highest tonnage that prevails.I'm going to sit this weekend out in the hope it goes back to normal after the patch as the main reason i play is for enjoyment ( this is not enjoyable )not because i have a short attention span .

What is the most interesting. You need to do this as with the choice of servers.

Splitting the options between 12v12 and 8v8 would spread out the users and hinder matching.
It is not a wise approach.

I like it. I think in 12v12 that if you go down 2 or 3 mechs it is really hard to come back from. In 8v8 play I think the opportunity for a team to pick of a couple mechs at the start is less likely so in 8v8 there is more set up and manuevering before the full blown conflict which seems a little more balanced.

And it's nice to have the variety.

Pros: The wait times were much shorter (at least for me)
Pros: Scouting & lights seem to have much greater importance now. I had a lot of fun with my Jenner IIC circling around the back of the enemy and surprising Assaults left without any defenders. I couldn't do it with 12-mans as Assaults were often well defended.

Cons: So many haters .... I don't think I get the vehemence.
