So I'm about to go from T5 to T4, mainly because in my 8 years this is the longest stretch I've played this game and focused on actually getting better! Instead of playing for a month or two and coming back 6-12 months later. I've actually spent around 9 months, have some favorite/really dialed in mechs so I'm climbing up from bottom T5 to 1-2 matches away from T4.
I'm wondering if this will screw with a few things though? Mainly I play with my cousin (bottom T5) and my son (he's 11 bottom T5). No I don't think T4 is much better BTW. However, I don't want to screw up our matchmaking and make matches harder for them. Also, when I started playing some faction play I noticed people were a lot more intense, and tilted a lot easie (yelling, cussing, making fun). This is SOOOOO rare in QP (T5) it's like once every week or two maybe I run into someone being saltly on mic. MWO in my opinion has always had one of the best communities I've found. I don't want to keep ranking up and having people at higher Tiers raging at me for making a dumb mistake (which happens a lot less now, but I'm still prone to it).
Also once you go up a rank can you bomb your ranking down? I.E. if I do 2 more matches to rank up. If I lose say 3 will it put me back down, or am I stuck at 4?

What To Expect When Ranking Up?

There is no big difference between T5 and T4. Sure, you can meet a T2 player from time to time, but the things will stay for you mostly as they are.

Yes, you can move up and down between Tiers.

yeah i feel you about Faction, mind you if you are still in T5 you aren't quite ready for faction anyway. honestly though its not worth the headaches. in faction you will find the hyper competitive meta try had cry babies that think the only way to have is to play the 3 or 4 ultra meta builds. its why i stopped playing Faction years ago.
as for getting up in the ranks it does change to much till you hit T3. you get a little more salt and of course there is the unwarranted hatred of LRM (don't let the haters chase you away from them, when you start going against more skilled players, T1-T2 types, you will find them very challenging to use) you will also find that there isn't near as much com use either actual battle coms or just shooting the ****. there is some though.
glad you are enjoying the game and hope you stay a while, we need all the new players we can get around here.

im starting to bubble into t2. all i really did was upgrade to a 144hz monitor and stopped mining crypto in the background. its weird because ive been using nothing but my seldom used mechs. some of which are pretty trash. props to the cauldon from making some of them usable.

The biggest difference between tiers is that at lower tiers you find more pants on head silly events, but also more variation in builds and match evolution.
In higher tiers you find more solid individual skills (generally), but decidedly more ragers, less build variation, and match variation (they play the same way every match). Also at top tiers you are more likely to run into "skill enhanced" players- and i'll leave it at that.
I raced to T1 after the reset, then for funsies maxed T1 until i realized my matches were entirely unfun and the people were generally silent or needlessly aggressive.
Now i purposely hover on the edge of T3/T4 and matches are significantly more enjoyable and varied.
Tiers don't just separate skills, they separate entire mindsets and priorities in gameplay.

You might orbit the edge of t4/t5 for a bit, but it's not a paradigm shift in terms of 'Mech selection or strategy. I wouldn't be too concerned about seeing a very sudden change in pace. You might want to impart on your group mates whatever wisdom you found most helpful in reaching T4 (congrats, by the way!) but honestly I think you and your group will be fine with the slight increase in difficulty.
Edit holy **** looks like someone is trolling old expired image shack links. Just look at my sig hahah. Well played whoever did that.
