But I have no illusions about its in-game performance (quirks aside, of course).

'Mech combining the size and the body shape of Thunderbolt (more or less) with the energy/missile loadouts of Catapult?

I'd say its more shaped like a grasshopper.
It'll be pretty cool, nothing new by any means but at this point we have such an oversaturation of variants I think new mechs dont mean much, outliers like the black python aside.
If we did it all again, I wouldn't do variants at all. I'd let each individual mech fill its own niche instead. It gives design space for more, unique mechs and reduces the frequency with which players gravitate towards specific mechs because they present the best hardpoint layout/hitboxes. Consider how many mechs overlap with the thunderbolts' various configurations. Why bother with them? The thunderbolt already exists and it does those job(s) better, and thats just one example.

Oh, absolutely. The other possibility is that PGI has been able to monetize Unseen all this time but never devoted the resources. While I'm not crazy about playing a gingerbread man silhouette in today's MWO meta, what goes to MWO surely goes to MW5 and elsewhere, and if the Crusader is worth PGI's trouble...
...I mean, for all the highs and lows over the years, the work by Alex and the asset team is forever.
