Truism... when lacking actual communication and coordination, the masses will follow the mech in front of them.

So... if you're a stealth mech and you don't want people to follow you... don't be in front. Just stand still until your team follows someone else, THEN go.

i dont like having a shadow, especially when im trying to win trades. having a guy standing near by to block my duck manuver and running in front to block my shot in order to fire on targets outside of their effective range. pick a spot that's better suited to your loadout ffs.

I gone so far as to announce my intentions (to fly solo) because as the OP inferred and you propped up... In the absence of leadership the sheep just waddle forward assuming the person in front of them knows what they're doing. Posted Image

LOL... I once demonstrated to my kid this pretense, I once ran the complete opposite way on Alpine and half the team followed me without questioning "why". Posted Image

I've posted the following response to this sort of thing before:

Light: "don't follow me" the light then proceeds to turn right and follow the prototypical NASCAR path.

Other players: proceed to NASCARing as usual.

Light: with shock and indignation: "I told you not to follow!!"

Other players: -thinking: wtf do you expect? Because you went right like everyone does on this map, the rest of us are supposed to go left? Up the middle? Stay where we are? Walk in circles? If you have a plan, then share it with the rest of us ffs!

Here's the thing: There are like 10 players in this whole game that are sufficiently skilled to where they can turn the tide of a match single-handedly, end even these folks can only manage it in the right, fairly rare, circumstances. Chances are, you are not one of those players. The vast majority of us aren't even special snowflakes that the gods of chance occasionally bless with special deference. If you want to be such a special snowflake, then you better have the actual skill PLUS the communication skills to give yourself a shot; otherwise your complaint is just so much wasted air. I am seeing this a lot on the newest map. E.g., everyone, as nearly always, NASCARs to the right or goes into the center from the get go. Some comp wanna be solo goes left to "snipe" from the high ground. Within 2 minutes they are bitching that the team stupidly went right and they are getting pressed by half the enemy team despite being oh so clever /s and going to a place right in the path of the equally predictable enemy NASCAR. News flash: If you wanted a different outcome then you needed to call out your plan, with specificity within the first 10 seconds following drop, otherwise people are going to do the same stupid **** that they always do, and you suddenly coming up with criticism, or even a legit plan, that late and after the rest of the team is all out of position, just makes things worse and makes you look like a whiny little bi$%@h and no one should be surprised at the resulting shi7 show; especially you with your brilliant plan that you failed to share until it was too late.

Yeah this was my first thought as well. I know when I'm not using ECM and end up on a "shooting gallery" map like Grim Plexus, Alpine, etc., I look for the nearest ECM mech to stay near so I can approach without eating tons of free LRM hits. I noticed people tend to do this to me when I play on Pirate's Bane or something, so I usually have to say something when I'm trying to setup backstabs so they don't follow me in and give me away.

My experience has been pretty similar:

Me:
  • in ECM/Stealth 'Mech
  • sniping with PPCs or GRs (so that enemy 'Mechs do not see laser beams) from the flank or from behind the enemy team
  • targeting enemies who are looking away, so they are not quite sure where those shots are coming from
Some "friendly" fool:
  • running in his non-ECM 'Mech across the battlefield to my position, so every enemy 'Mech can see him
  • parking right in front of my 'Mech
  • firing his single medium or large laser to scratch enemy 'Mechs for like 2 points of spread damage
  • attracting the attention of the entire enemy team to my position
  • happily running away, thinking that he "helped" me Posted Image
Has anybody a smilar experience?

1. I did not say that this is my exclusive play style.

2. If such snipers are getting enemy kills or disabling enemy 'Mechs' systems (because enemy rear armor is weaker than the front armor), then they are contributing.

Don’t knock the Shadow Cat players too hard. I’ve seen them nearly turn losing games around by themselves a few times.

I try to take a leadership role in my games sometimes and even got good results from time to time, but on the occasions I don’t, I certainly hope I’m not that guy who unwittingly exposes a stealth player’s position. Posted Image

Shadow Cat snipers are not a new phenomenon in the game. Posted Image

real snipers can core you out from across the map.

a shadowcat is more of a distraction mech. its charm is that it can annoy the other team to a point where they commit 2 or 3 mechs to trying to kill it. this gives your main force more of an advantage. when you see a shadowcat being useless, its because the enemy was too smart to take the bait. it really doesn't have the damage output with a sniper loadout to really have a large impact as a pure sniper role.
