Ever had one of those matches where you don't get a shot off or even physically see the enemy?

I had one of those today. I was playing in the Bog, peaked around a hill, didn't see anyone, so I turned around when I got a seismic contact behind me. As I turned around, I got shot in the back by an er medium laser. Had to be more than one since it took me out in 1 shot. I don't build my mechs with light/no armor on the backs. I just sat there stunned for a second and then quit the match. I was the first to die in the first couple of minutes.

So, you ever have a match like that? Lets hear your story.

Just yesterday I went out in an unskilled Panther and jumped on a resource point and started capping with nobody else around. Then I was dead; double hit in the back by a pair of heavy large lasers. Never saw the attacker or the attack, just knew it was clan HLLas from the damage report.

Serves me right; I know stock sensors in MWO are pure crap, and I normally never field a mech without the entire sensor tree maxed out, or order to mitigate this somewhat.

It happens, not a huge deal.

Now, if someone in the 31st century could take time away from hyper-space travel, building better laser weapons, perfecting energy-to-matter weapons, and developing stealth technology, and instead re-invent the rear-facing camera, like they had back in the 20th century on basic commuter vehicles, that would be a big deal! Yeah, I might have to apologize for that. I tend to run an Arctic Cheetah that totes 2 C-HLL, an ecm and almost no armor so I can get away with it. As such, I tend to go for the spine.

I doubt I'm the only one that pulls these kinds of shenanigans though.

This is one of many reasons I don't run light mechs often. (I suuuuuuck in them.) I'm fast, i have MASC, I'll find the enemy and... found them! (Get shot by 4 mechs at once...) ooo.... 19 damage... a new record [low]... Posted Image

I'd say I have "one of those matches" about 10% of the time (maybe more). Getting one shot happens when trying to be clever; trying to get behind the enemy in some fragile light that I am not very good in; or just doing my usual rush in and try and take out a target, be damned if that target has 1-11 friends with it. Meh. I find those players who worry about "position" or using the team as shields, or making sure not to engage until X has happened or Y amount of time has past to better ensure their survival and performance to be impressive in their way, but I just can't be bothered. I rush to the engagement as fast and as recklessly as possible becasue its fun. If I get slaughtered by massed fire or because I am just way out (ahead) of the rest of my team; it's fine. The fact that it doesn't happen more frequently just goes to show how bad/restricted the population of the game has become; if folks were more consistently competent I ought to be getting popped within the first three minutes of a match more like 80% of the time rather than my estimated 10%.

I do this as much as I can, but I play harasser playstyle. Myst Lynx with small lasers and machine guns. I have almost maxed out sensor tree, so I'm not sure why I didn't get a hit on sensors. But, I have fought an ECM mech (Phoenix Hawk maybe?) that I was in a death spiral with and could not get a lock on! You MIGHT have been able to fit a medium sized mech between us, we were that close. Oh well. Like others have said, sometimes you get and others you get got.

Yeah, but for other reasons than you probably had - back in the day Assault was sometimes over without seeing anyone when quick Lights captured the base while the mainforce did not meet in time...

these matches are 1 in a million. or at least should be. but when they DO happen.. oh boy^^

had a match some months ago on classic frozen city. both teams where busy hiding for several minutes, so (spawing at the cliffside) I said to myself: "f*ck it, I'll drop and go the the side, do some stuff from there"
-the very SECOND I landed at the bottom of the cliff, I got cored from behind by an arctic wolf who (so I guess) was pressing into the cliff, waiting for somebody to drop. one-shot, gone from ~98%fresh to dead.

took me a few seconds to realise what happened there, and a camera-shot would have been golden I guess^^
best death in mwo FOR YEARS and I had to laugh for quite some time because of that Posted Image

I don’t recall ever having a match where I was active, non base rush and scored zero damage. I am pretty sure I have caused a few thou with a 3 HPPC Awesome prior to the PPC changes. It’s fun melting lights.

It's moments like this I wished MWO had a kill cam. One match on HPG I was rocking my vindicator, I went to peak over a ramp and took a heavy gauss right to my 6 armored cockpit. 100% life to instant death. Seeing my mech just slow rock back all limp like was kinda funny though.

Could you imagine a kill cam like sniper elite or war Thunder? It would be funny to see if your pilot would survive, even if the mech didn't.

Not really.

But I do regularly have matches where one alpha will destroy half of my mech in one short peek right at the beginning of the round. It is then that I remember how sh*t the power creep is in this game and how sh*t the PPC/sniper meta is in MWO at the moment.

After this I promptly lose any desire to play the game, rush in, deal some damage, die in 2 seconds and turn off MWO.

Well as they say, practice makes perfect. I assume a lack of practice has the opposite effect.

You misunderstood my post. Seems like you need some practice yourself.

Quite a lot of practice, but that's beside the point. Posted Image

What I got from your post is that you are unsatisfied with the current state of meta, and that if someone using it gets the drop on you, you're inclined to turn the game off. I take the opposite approach, and strive to stop making the mistake that got me pwned. The result is that these days I feast on snipers who voluntarily separated themselves from their team for a good firing position. Yum! Posted Image

Any match where I get against a whole team of lrms, I only play slow close range brawlers and sometimes im just gonna get on a map like frozen city where i get bombed before i can do anything.

I really haven't been having issues with Snipers, LRMS occasionally, but only when I'm not rocking ECMs and then it's only for a brief time. I've gotten pretty good at moving from cover to cover and finding the ECM & AMS boys to shelter near.

Also with the current meta, at this point everyone should have AMS mounted, and every pre-made Lance drop should have one ECM mech.

I also rarely play Assaults, mostly mids and lights with some heavies. People tend to ignore the mediums and lights for the assaults. Which is a mistake because it's easier to knock out the small fries first.
