I was thinking lately about the possibility of a big revival project for mwo and taking it into a healthier, new direction even if its quite unlikely to happen at a massive scale.
I understand their hands are a little tied in terms of funding and number of developers and the games metrics aren't the best they've ever been, but it's still pretty decently active thanks to the cauldron, events and similar initiatives.

A good few other longrunning franchises struggled badly, but have had quite steep positive turnovers once they allowed the community to more actively influence the decision making and future development of quite a few other titles, especially when it comes to live service / mmo titles.

Do you think it would be possible in any way for the mwo team to reach out and work closely with the team behind living legends and other skilled modders and developers with a passion for the battletech franchise, in order to bring a lot of fresh talent in and work on transformative content?...

Solaris didn't quite work out so well despite it having rebranded the game to mwo solaris 7 at the time, faction play is somewhat alive but suffers from wonky queue times despite being pretty fun at its core.
But how about fusing some of the things that made Living Legends so successful with mwo?...
Quickplay is fine as is really for a quick brawl, but how reiterating on the incursion game mode as an idea on grander, more open maps, perhaps with the possibilty of combined arms.

A conquest like mode where you have your main base on opposite sides, capture outposts, destroy static defenses and battle players from the opposite team with the possibility of adding ai vehicles to the mix (acting basically like moba-esque waves down a lane) if you wish to restrict players to using their mechs in order to keep it in the spirit of MWO and not having to develop framework for vehicle gameplay.
Your overall performance (capturing objectives, dealing damage, etc) could perhaps influence when you unlock your heavier mechs or how quickly they become available to you again, with your selection perhaps being pooled from a dropdeck (similar to faction play) rather than using your entire garage, so you would have to plan ahead a little.
Respawning and being able continue the fight till the end as a game mechanic is an important thing to have because it lets people play more and spend less time in menus between matches.

I added the segment about ready times for heavier mechs so that there is a personal incentive to play well in order for your side to take the upper hand and win but there also other ways to achieve that. Either if a certain number of 'tickets' run out, or if the enemy main base is being directly assaulted and destroyed (shielded unless pushed back enough) would the mach end, with all players able to participate in combat till that happens.

Note that I have not played living legends myself, but that sounds like something that would merge what people like about mwo with the more open nature of matches that LL seems to provide.

What do you think? Would that be something that people are interested in playing?
For me personally, I think it would offer something new for veterans and new players alike that would be a great alternative to quickmatch if you wish to battle it out on a shifting frontline for a longer duration rather than getting in a 'just queue again' mindset.
Being able to be a part of that match throughout would have you be far more invested in it and likely have you care more about the outcome as well, so long as increased match duration does also increase your rewards accordingly to respect your playtime.

living legends 2 is in development. and barring any new mechwarrior games in the pipeline (such as mw5 online or mwo2 or whatever), its setting up to be mwo's successor proper. in the early days of mwo i still felt that mwll was a superior product, and after playing literally a few games, i went back to mwll. it wasn't until pgi took steps to stop mwll development, and this led to a lot of my initial animosity towards pgi. how dare they kill what i considered to be the best mechwarrior experience up to that point for their dumbed down shell of a game. and mw5 seemed to learn all the wrong lessons from mwo. things have improved since then. i like to imagine what mwll would have looked like if it had continued and i guess we will get to see that eventually. i think things would have been better if they worked with the mwll team rather than against it.

i think id rather living legends 2 be its own thing. more same old regurgitated concepts are not what i want. id like to see a megamap based open world mmo proper. pretty much mwll but scaled up considerably. not inner sphere scale, thats rather unrealistic. but perhaps you could do the battle of tukayyid, so everything takes place on one planet. that would at least be different.
