Later OP techs like ECM, AMS etc, also need iterative work....
But how to make MWO great again:
Make it a Pilot Avatar centric game!
Have each Pilot work up the ranks via Missions where they can earn money, reputation, standing, connections etc.
Mechs are Mission based, Missions are Theater based, acces to Theaters is based on the progress of each Pilot.
The goal is to get as much money and reputation to enable you to buy and rework your own Mech, Lance, Company etc.
Pilots speialize on Weightclasses and Mechs, top specialistskills are only auireable if you commit yourself to a specific Mech in a specific weightclass.
Customization must be plenty and each Pilot is like each Mech individually custmomizable.
Matchfinding/making/socializing goes via Warrooms/Cantinas (acting as Lobby for Soldiers/Mercs) were each Pilot Avatar is shown off.
Missions and Maps can be staged so according to the success in a former Mission you are on attack, retreat, rescue, escort (not NPC but try to get a PC in a damaged Mech to a certain point of extraction).
So, i stop here, there are possibilities aplenty, simply dont restrict yourself to a certain specific playerbase and playstyle!
