I have been waiting for a while for proton and nVidia support. The latest Steam update gave us a Proton Experimental that is running MechWarrior Online. The recent hack and request for ransom of nVidia's data has resulted in nvidia-open software on the Arch repositories.

I did a clean install of Arch / KDE with linux-zen kernel and linux-zen-headers to support getting the game to run. A Steam install from the Arch repo and set it to Proton Experimental and Bam! It let me install MechWarrior Online. I copied over all of my folders containing my profile, mech loadouts, skill loadouts, weapon groups, key maps, etc, and I am up and running.

With my old Gen 7 Intel processor and my nVidia 2070, I am getting an average of 100 fps, so I am happy.

Congrats on getting a stable linux gaming distro set up. Seems thats an ongoing holy grail quest where once you find it the api standards change and you have to do it all over again.

This seems to be better suited in the Workarounds section. Thread moved.

For me it works, right out of steam. No problem at all.
I am on Debian Bookworm, should therefore also run on Ubuntu.

Runs fine on my system for over a year and half now. Straight out of the box, was as easy to set it up as on windows OS.

OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS, with Nvidia built in support + Steam

Hardware:
CPU: Intel i3-9100F @3.60GHz x 4
Mem: 16GiB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with 12GB mem

Installed from Steam on Linux Mint, works out of the box, very stable and excellent FPS.

I7 4th gen, 16GB, 4060TI, 3440x1440.

No tweaks needed, it just works.
