honestly they are in a good spot right now for me it depends on the build what one i use

LAMS-- for mechs with only a single AMS slot, and/or low heat mechs.

AMS- for mechs with multiple AMS slots, hotter running, and/or in cases where i need an extra half ton so cut the ammo down to only 1/2. (also mechs where the AMS is in a spot where you only have one slot.)

(the only real mech that doesn't fit this is my Corsair-7A, on that i use 2 standard AMS and 2 LAMS because it is a RAC/ energy build and i need to watch the heat. mixing means that even after my ammo is gone for the AMS (a rare occurrence but has happened, well run out or get the ammo bin critted out) i can still do my job as an Iron Dome.)

now on another note the LAMS has the advantage of not using ammo so will work as long as you have it active where standard AMS can run out of ammo.

the one thing about AMS that makes me scratch my head is how much haters ***** about LRM all the while refusing to sacrifice a small amount of DPS so they can put an AMS on their mech and frustrate the hell out of LRM (as a part time Lurmer the worst thing i can find on a battlefield is a Corsair-7A or to fire a volley and see a tone of AMS arching into the sky from many mechs eating up my missiles)

--Side Note-- AMS also works on all other missile weapons so they cut into MRM, ATM, SRM and so on. not as effective against SRM but still does some work unless they are right in your face.
