The main logic it seems would be to get the most expensive hero you are interested in so you can use the free mc we get to buy the cheaper ones especially on sale.

Meh, I'm not getting the most expensive one, I'm getting the one I'll use most often.

To an extent, but you could get any light or medium hero just with the MC available for free in the last month or so. You’ll likely be able to get another light or medium hero in the next month, just by saving MC from this event, and what you get next event. But to get an ultra-violet, spirit bear, Sleipnir or Rancor, or any of the other big boys, you’d have to save far longer.

So while the idea of getting a mech that you’ll use a lot is good, you might as well get an *expensive* mech that you’ll use a lot for the freebie, and get the cheaper heroes using event MC. If you only want light/medium mechs though, have at it of course.

If you've already got Clan mechs with multiple variants, getting the hero can help open up different builds.

Think of it as a source of spare parts that help build better standard mechs.

I will pick the executioner hero because it has cat ears.

This too, yes. I picked up the Sun Spider Manul last month when it was 50% off just for the omni-pods.
