you are going to waste ammo, thats just the way missiles are. even with a lock a third of your missiles will hit dirt. it costs, but its usually not something you do the entire match. i think the damage/t is actually better than srms/lrms when used exclusively in the 3-damage bracket. it almost makes up for the spread, almost.

ATMs have many disadvantages, while it is difficult to get the most of them.

atms still feel like the superior missile (compared to clan lerms of course). missiles being what they are people are starting to drop their ams units to save some space/weight and im getting good damage/score/kills numbers in games with atm boats. they are in a good place, though i wouldn't mind having a velocity buff (275, 300 maybe).

On one good game with ATMs you get three games when it seems that the enemy team runs nothing but ECM 'Mechs, with Corsair capable of negating your 'Mech completely on top of that. On Solaris, of course. Posted Image

Sadly, this works only against one enemy 'Mech at a time. These days it is nothing unusual to see multiple ECM 'Mechs on the enemy team.

if the mechs are that close then its time to dumbfire, or just shoot them with the ppc.

though it does kind of make me want for a node that extends the ppc disruption time.
