Lights and some Mediums are my jam. Lights are not necessarily easier to play but "easy" is in the eye of the beholder I think. I find it easier to evade incoming fire with a light than with an Annihilator. My turn accuracy is better, my aim is better ... and I just don't take forever swinging a boat around. Give me a Light, speed and some jumpjets any day of the week over a sloth behemoth. My favorite lately has actually been my Spider 5d with 3 light ppcs which can get me from 200 to 700 in damage (without arty). Artic Cheetah rocks, Urbies ROCK, Kit Fox just kicks missile boats butt, Incubus Scimitar can pull out a serious amount of damage with 2 Lrg Pulse laser, and one of my absolute favorites the Pirahna that even being a paper tiger can just wrip components off the enemy.
If I'm not in a Light, then it's my Shadowcat which I just love playing: fast, flying, sniper/guerilla warfare.

Like I said, I got destroyed in lights when I first started. I'd say they have a somewhat steeper learning curve, especially if you go into the game wanting to just bust out and start brawling (you can't do that). You also need to be able to aim while running, something I totally couldn't do at first. But, standing still in a light is usually a big mistake. On a similar note, being able to torso-twist, while running one way and looking another, is important, and that's very much an acquired skill.

depending on my mood i general play across all classes primarily heavies and assault because taking hits is a bit less punishing occasionaly mediums indeed for that bit more mobility (and to my dying breath i will still say that medium mech 1v1 in solaris is the most buttchlenching of fights to have and watch) but i also sometimes play light mechs for support, bit rarer for hit and run because i`m not good at it, but lights are pretty viable and fun to play with imho ...

not a light fan myself (well unless its an Urbie, i love those angry butt plugs) but thats mostly because anything moving over 100kph tends to give me a headache. honestly i am more of a Heavy/Assault player. though i once was more of a medium player and i still love medium mechs. heavies though will always be my favorite though. i think i own more heavy mechs than any other weight class. (its also the weight class that i own more multiple variants of multiple mechs (catapult, Roughneck, and Warhammer being ones that i have at least three of each. there may be more but i can't think of it right off hand i think i have 3 Dragons as well but thats because i won the Striker pack in a forum contest bake when it came out)

im going to go ahead and throw this out there...
The game has been and will always be controlled by the lights...
If your lights suck... your going to lose
if your lights are good... your going to win
and if you come across a highly organized light pack working together... just eject
strictly LCT-pb pilot, who often pulls off 1000 or more damage with a 19.9 ton mech
I control the round

Yeah its almost like the game was tailored to make lights more powerful than they should be.
You know like removing the agility of larger mechs.
