Since most of the playerbase is mature enough not to do these kind of things and the fact that it is on CryEngine helps me in thinking it won't happen. ^_^

Boats will occur. After all CBT does support them.

Even if MWO just go for stock configs and alt setups available (no customization), you can't avoid them since there are plenty of stock boats around. Famous stock boats for example, Super Nova, Nova, Annihilator, Awesome, Flashman etc

To fix boating, Piranha has to better balance weapons, that's mainly it.

You may not like boating, but other players (myself included, not that I specifically rely on it) might. It's a valid tactic and specializes someone into a certain role; this is a playstyle choice that should be free to everyone to perform.

yes boating will occur and that is fine as long as the volley damage doesn't get to high (generally occurs when you start allowing people to dump engine speed and armor down)

I hope this game doesnt become Whinewarrior, full of people that cry cause they cant compete. Boating is another legitimate tactic along with jump sniping. (yes, I did just open that can of worms back up) ^_^

You have a fantasy view of F2P player bases. The forum goers currently might be mature, but they are not in any way an accurate representation of what the game's playerbase will end up upon release.

Heimdal is right unfortunately. Take a look at most F2P games the communities can get REALLY bad (look at LoL). I do think it being a simulation with cut down on it some but won't get rid of it.

And silent people will always complain about being unable to compete and want to play against the hardcore and dedicated as a 1h day casual... What most of them haven't realized is no mechanics can change this it's about dedication to learning the game and a mindset of dedication to victory. Those who cannot match that mindset cannot compete with those that do. I personally will do whatever it takes without resorting to cheating/bug exploits to win. I just want more meaningful gameplay than "checkers with mechs" created by high alpha situations.

You know, people like that will rather stay with their CoD 1 024 164 321, or troll in LoL (MOBA games are so fun, until the point they get flooded with people like that). Just give this game a slogan like: "Mechwarrior: Online, realistic F2P 'mech simulator with 20 keys just on movement."

The "trollbase" will say this game: "Sux balls, iz ****, ..." and leave us alone. (sorry for that curse, but I had to express that hate somehow ^_^ )

I don't necessarily want to see a bunch of boats running around either, but the OPTION to do that should be in game with the appropriate consequences for such a build.

Mechwarriors shouldn't be allowed to cry either, you should get demoted to the infantry, or something.....

Heyoooo

Modern technology reduces the need for water.

A lack of "coolant flush" like in MW4, and PGI making heat management have harsher effects like in the tabletop will reduce the effectiveness of boats. I'm not worried (much).

Yes, this. Having criticals, critical hits, ammo explosions, reactor explosions after x-seconds of maxed heat, and no coolant flushes would be a very good way to help balance boating out.

If a person chooses one type of weapon and one type of weapon only, say, those Ultra ACs; yes it can be daunting if you're getting hit in said barrage, however, this doesn't mean you can't overcome that in a variety of ways. If someone chooses to boat, it specializes them in whatever attack type they're choosing, but it makes them predictable as soon as you realize this is all they have to offer. Predictable means you know what range you have to fight them at, you know if they need to constantly close to get in on you, and you're able to coordinate amongst teammates to decide whether that person (due to this) becomes a large threat or is one that can be temporarily ignored.

I don't really see what the big deal about boating is - does it matter if I choose two or three weapons with similar range/damage profiles and hit you with those, as opposed to hitting you with one of all the same?

I'd like to see the option of a coolant flush. Perhaps each mech can have open slots where you could install certain types of equipment and you would only get a certain amount of uses. This would allow the flush to stay in game in a limited fashion, but not enough for boats to be overly effective. Makes everyone happy I think.

Yea coolant flush was a bad idea in the first place. and it did seem like they are making heat more valid as it would seem hopefully even movement will take a tiny bit of heat "Every time a giant gun is fired or massive legs drive the massive vehicles forward, heat is built up."

just a hope

It matter when it's enough to cripple or kill anything up to its own weight category in 1 volley
