the thread did not backfire at all
it has shown you exactly how the system will work
the game is not even out but it has so much steadfast lore and fans already attached to it ... including the devs
certain factions dont like others, this changes from month to month and the fans get caught right up in it
The makers of battletech want it that way, they like that people get so attached and loyal to houses/units/clans
it makes the universes history that much deeper. MWO wants to capture that BT feeling using a 1:1 timeline straight from BT cannon
thus alliances will change very often
so it is my guess based on the fiction, fans attitudes and faction details from PGI that it will be a system more like WoW where you cannot interact with your enemies at all (other than killing them, and certainly no picking flowers together)
yes that will devide the player base a bit but thats fine
its a free game if you want to have friends on the other side of the fence or just experience it for a bit just make a new account and go
bit being locked into your faction will make for the 1:1 events of the universe be that much cooler when they affect you and start changing the game
you and your friends shouldnt be concerned about what mechs you want to ride but what faction to join or go the merc path(s)
if your friend group is die hard and 50/50 dead set on sticking to certain factions, why not start a merc corp and dedicate your selfs to only those two factions and do everything you can to atain maximum loyalty to the two houses thus adding even more to your own merc units narraitve within the BT universe as im sure that will be a struggle to maintain with the cannons political shifting
like the rest of us you should plan ahead, put the feelers out and get your friends leaning in the same direction so your ready for launch day

If I join House Kurita and my best friend joins House Liao
