Having lots of armor is good, but you can only use the armor once per match, meanwhile you can use high mounts every time you hump a hill.

So yeah, the Orion's got more armor than a Kodiak, but it still sucks. You can kill people with it, but it's more work to do so than most 'mechs.

Hey you guys misunderstand me. I'm happy to have pilots that skimp on back armor.

yes. and when you run up against a mech with 70+ points of pinpoint you're back to being just a normal mech with bad hitboxes and low mounts.

There is a reason that literally every high-skill player you have ever talked to will tell you to shift armor forward. Back in the old 8v8 days, I used to have more back armor than normal on my brawling 'mechs; but 12v12 means a lot more firepower on each team, and thus more damage thrown at you - which means that the times you can walk an Atlas through the enemy team, turn around, and still have guns left, are few and far between. Brawling is a more restrained affair these days, because you have to find limited engagements to survive long enough to do it well: this makes shifting torso armor to the rear a bad proposition overall. If you find that you're getting cored from behind all the time, then by all means shift some armor backwards. Just be aware that this is a concession to your level of skill, and not a best practice once your skill level increases.
