How Many Mechs Are There?

This makes me wonder: How many mechs are there currently in MWO?
How many Inner Sphere?
How many Clan?
How many Hero?
How many Champion?
Special variants, cannot be bought?
Proposed mechs for the future of the game, mechs that exist in the Battletech universe but have not been added yet?
Just trying to get an idea of how many options there are and how many more could be possible for the future.

Are you talking about 'Mech chassis, or do you count variants too?

Dozens. Hundreds, if we count variants and OmniMech configurations.

I'm not going to count variants for you, but if my math is right...
47 Inner Sphere Chassis
28 Clan Chassis
Those include announced by not released mechs.

I could certainly go through the list in-game, but yeah I would think that variants of each chassis should be counted in a separate number. Maybe not go so crazy as to count each combination that could be done with Omnipods, that can be calculated.
Kind of surprised there isn't a total number or list that someone has already made.

Just to address this part, check this page on Sarna:
http://www.sarna.net...eMech_Timetable
If you sort that by Production Year in increasing order, you can then get a rough idea of what's available on either Clan or IS side.
If we go up to 3053, looks like about 200 chassis. And in the 3050s, each year we go forward adds about 10 more.
Now that'll include many chassis which are unlikely to ever be added (only a handful of prototypes ever made, LAM's, only one variant, effectively extinct 'mechs where any surviving individuals would have to be 500+ years old...). But then there are quite many cornerstone designs from TRO3025 that remain to be added, so it's not all prototypes and rarities.

Good lord that's many... After 20+ months of play, I've managed to grind 46 'mechs, and currently they release them quicker than I get new ones. PokéMek level: fail.

Do we include the variants in the files, but not implemented?
Or is that too ambiguous?
We know there's the Victor-A, but what's the Gauss Knight? (along with all of R2 unused hardpoints)

Only ones officially announced or actually playable, otherwise it would be too ambiguous since we know that they plan on giving every mech a hero as well (which is around what, 22?).

I'm missing less actually, with this sale I'll just be missing the Linebacker, Clan heroes, and the unreleased Bushwacker which puts me at only missing 20, I just don't care enough to stop being lazy and update my sig.

That makes more sense based on your prior comments. I got here in the middle of Open Beta, so I've had a lot of back catalog to work through. All chassis owned, but a scattering of missing variants. Hard to motivate oneself to level AWS-8V....

And it doesnt help that I was never invested into the lore of Battletech/Mechwarrior so I really have no idea. Thanks for the answers, gives me a much better idea of what is available.

I imagine we should be getting a "Resistance 1 Heroes" page at some point, followed by Wave 2 Clan heroes, then Resistance 2 Heroes, and Wave 3 heros, then finally "Origins IIC" heroes..
There's a ballistic arm and energy torso Mauler too isn't there?
As far as the Victor-9A goes, wouldn't be surprised if that is a loyalty mech next year.
