Barring ghost heat issues, it's generally best to keep as many weapons as possible identical, so that they all have unified handling characteristics. If you're after just an SRM8 package you could go 4x SRM2s, which gives you the fastest cooldown and best spread possible, and therefore both the highest damage output and the most efficient damage output. But that's a bit of a waste of the VA's hardpoints IMO, since you can easily run an SRM24 package with it.

Different cooldown on otherwise similar weapons can mess with your aim and timing.
I would go with either quad SRM-4s or quad SRM-6s (of course, it depends on how much tonnage you used on other weapon systems).
Also, missile spread:
- SRM-6 has quite wide spread in its defaults state. If you like it, good. If you want a tighter spread, you must user Artemis IV Fire Control System, so that would cost you +1 ton per missile rack, i.e. 4 more tons for 4 SRM launchers.
- SRM-4 are usually used without Artemis IV, so they are almost always the lighter option (but less powerful one, naturally).

SRM6/2 splits have one key advantage on machines with enough hardpoints to take advantage: They don't share heat pools, so you can get a bigger one-click alpha. But that's not relevant for the VA specifically, since it's only got four missile slots to start with.

Two 4's are better than a 6 and a 2. You'll have a more predictable heat spike pattern, a shorter cool down than the 6, and a tighter spread.

On the VA, I can't think of a reason, but on, say, the Arctic Wolf 1, you can get a one-click alpha out of it instead of needing to stagger-fire, which is advantageous.
For myself, my VA's a dirt simple UAC/20 + SRM24 machine with a LFE300. Reasonably fast, devastating within its range bracket, pretty sturdy.

Pretty close to stock, I wasn't trying to spend too many C-bills on it just yet. AC10 (2x ammo), 4xSRM4's (2x ammo), 2xML, Std300, 6xDHS. That UAC/20 + SRM24 sounds good, maybe I'll build it the next time LFE's on sale.

i run my VA as follows
ON1-VA (4 SRM-6, 2 LLs, 1 AMS (1/2t ammo), running an LE-315 with 6 DHS, and Endo) of course had to strip a bit from the legs but it works well.

Depending on where exactly you have that ammo, CASE can be a good add-on.
