Heck, in one game yesterday I had an Atlas walk in front of me while I was engaging the red team and then he turned around to stare at me... they were shooting him in the back the entire time. While he is staring at me, he typed "how do I spot the enemies"

Care to link us some statistical data that backs up that assumption? Because all the data I see show lights as the least performing class and assaults the best performing. What's bad is the assault that decides to fall behind the group to lob lrm or play wallflower sniper and they get mobbed by some lights or even a single light they are ill equipped to fight off.

Even if this was an accurate assertion - which it isn't - what's wrong with that balance? Should any Mech not have the same possible impact in a given match? If your kind of "Balance" would be achieved, what incentive would be there to play a light mech?

But no. Remove groups not really solve matters. Doubling the population\playerbase may would but we all know that would hardly happen!
+ The playerbase's number is incorrect because some players have alt accounts and despite all their alts they still a single person. But not really understand why worth an alt account but that is my personal problem (maybe not play this game long enough to understand)...
Not insta solve but it would help a lot.

The matchmaker could be improved alot at higher tiers though, if PSR was open ended so it didn't go blind once a player maxes out for example that would potentially improve it a lot. Currently it views all top 10-15% ish players like me (who have maxed out PSR) as if I am somehow equal to the top 1% of comp players, it simply doesn't know how much better they are and it leads to a lot of imbalanced matching in tier 1.
PSR calculation also doesn't factor in your impact on winning matches enough and gives a lot of weight to secondary stats like damage and stuff. I have much better WLR as a solo player than many players ranked above me on Jarls which is kinda weird as their statistical impact on the outcome of matches is lower than mine. Farming score should not be rewarded above playing to win as it creates perverse incentives in the system.
That being said I'm kind of resigned to the status quo and I don't trust PGI to understand matchmaking all that well. Unless they go back and implement Nightstars work (which is the most serious and competent suggestion to date) or similar I think they would just mess things up futher if they try to revamp it now.

As it’s been pointed out already, big part of the trouble is population size. There would still be trouble here if our population was six times the size, frankly - the skill gap between T5 versus T1, and then average T1 versus Division A is really big. Add in groups that aren’t always coordinated/making use of their tonnage and you get… soup.
Thing is too, a fairly large percentage of these folks who are doing the best in QP are willing to help out and answer questions if you’re willing to accept help and apply yourself. Personally I have a lot of people to thank for where I’m at and further up to go… and everyone would like to see the skill floor come up while keeping a place for casual play.
Regarding smurfs… anyone who’s as good as that will be in T1 from a fresh account in less than 100 matches. T5 to T4 is five or less. I’m not terribly concerned about that.

They also have massive pools of customers.. Battletech is a dying franchise.. At least outside of the USA and maybe Europe. People have no idea what Battletech is here in Aus.. So obviously the pool of customers is tiny as on a world scale.
So 100 tiers would leave a handful of customers fighting each other.. forever.

PSR is meant to be a tool to match players, not a ladder to grind. The goal is not to reach the top of T1, but to have balanced games.
As for the end-goal for the players, I guess it's to complete your pokedex.

Battletech recent Kickstarters raised millions of dollars (2.5M$ for Clan Invasion and 7.5M$ for Mercenaries), I won't say it's a dying franchise.
But true, MWO is kinda dying.

Only because of lack of support as they poured all their effort and funding into the single player games. Things are changing though and mwo is getting some much needed attention. I'd say it still has at least another few years or so left and who knows if they ever wised up and did a unified launcher then it would most likely attract a fair few from the single player side that don't even know this game exists. Cross promotion would be a huge boon for this game but they seem rather resistant to take advantage.

I'm not that surprised they haven't. I mean if your first ever bt/mw experience was mw5 and then you tried mwo. That massive huge let down thinking oh man mw5 is epic and then first match on solaris or river city. A stupid rock stops your mech. An entire alpha strike can't even break a single window. No mods what so ever. 25 games? Naw man,I'm out.
That's not even getting into the current meta with lbx60,laser vomit in the 40-70 dmg, the no-heat dual heavy guass builds or any other meta-like ppfd build that can nearly core many is mechs and erase is lights first shot.

When I play MW5 for 1 or 2 hours, I don't feel like playing MWO anymore. It's really disappointing

Even the simplest games have objectives. I think this should have one too.

Sure. But the point is that there would be some measure of crossover so why not? A unified launcher isn't any more expensive to maintain that several independent launchers and can cost less since its unified only needing one launcher client to develop and maintain. Cross marketing is also cheap because they already own the ip. I mean they already drop mw5 info in the mwo launcher why not the reverse?

The game should be its own reward... if you're playing a (PvP) game for extrinsic rewards, imho it's time to change of game.
Out of topic: I was really disappointed by MW5 at release and haven't played since. I heard it got better. Is it true or is it still "the same" game?
