So, I'm running this build: hbk-4g

And I've been having a serious heat problem... but only when slightly damaged. It seems once I start taking damage, I go from a meager 20% heat per shot to something like 40%+ heat per shot. I mean it's so bad that after a cool shot, a single alpha puts me at critical heat again.

My best guess is that once my CT starts taking some damage, it's reducing the effectiveness of the heat sinks in the engine. What is the best way to deal with this?

1. Drop 1 ton of ammo and place an extra heat sink in a torso? Do I put it in the CT or a ST? This also leaves me with 45 rounds... which seems light.

2. perhaps one of the skills can help? "Heat gen" wouldn't be enough since it seems to more than double the heat produced. Perhaps "heat containment"? Would "reinforced casing" help reduce this heat related damage?

thanks!

It's because your left side is destroyed, and with it part of your LFE engine: when an LFE or a clan XL is partially destroyed, you lose heat dissipation, heat capacity and movement speed.

"Reinforced casing" won't change anything, since engines can't be crit, it only happens when the full side torso is destroyed.
The other heat skills will help a little, but to be honest, once your side torso is destroyed you'd better only use the AC.

"Slightly damaged". Yegads, you mech jocks... yer entire side is ripped off!

Almost. When you lose a side torso with a LFE you WILL lose a substantial chunk of your heat capacity too.

You can't fit IS DHS in a CT. And putting it into the ST you're deadsiding with means you will lose it along with that torso. Put it in the arm on the cannon side.

By my measure you're overstocked on ammo by at least a ton as is. Do you even use the Magazine Capacity skills? If not, you should start.

Heat Gen will reduce your heat production by around 10%.

Perhaps "heat containment"?
Cool Run is worth more than Heat Containment most of the time.

No, there's a separate skill for overheat damage.

#3: Switch to a Standard engine at a lower rating (250 should be a right fit)

Here is my 4G: https://mwo.nav-alph...47396d3_HBK-4G. It has 4 tons of ammo and 3 lasers. The heat rating in the mechlab is 1.56/2 so it should run relatively cool. I like to be at 1.3 or higher. I do have all the heat-related skills applied. I haven't played it super recently so I don't have any recent memories of how it's performing.
