The Faction Play is interesting, but the maps for most are a boring waste of my 20 minutes.
There are three-four interesting and balanced maps - emerald, vitric, sometimes grim (there's just this cool passage for JJ mechs, otherwise just as boring because of these stupidly placed red lines that limit the map, tactics and fun).
And all other is complete garbage - a desert with rocks and an empty winter field (in QP this empty field is also nonsense, like the dull and hated by me polar highlands).
There are only two narrow passages in which a crowd of enemies fire at you. And in the attack you need SO LONG to go to them. I don't even mention "snipers".
In essence, it all comes down to a stupid rush against boring pixelhunt sniping.
A fast medium mech has no ability to maneuver (the whole fan of this game for me) - there is literally one even corridor, you have nowhere to go, and the other corridor is half an hour away.
Your teammates spawn in groups of 1-2 and are simply crushed by a crowd of defenders while the other 2-4 reach the narrow passage.
I'm not going to sit with a microphone and waste time looking for teammates - I'm not interested, I just don't do it, there are already players in the game itself, there are simply no conditions for fun for them.
Between these large passages there is simply no room for maneuver, you are always quickly killed, since there are no shelters. The whole gameplay is the exchange of alpha shots for armor, a quick drain of the fur and again stomp for 5 minutes to a stupid narrow passage.

I agree the maps are all designed the same choke points and kill boxes.. Really boring. I'd love to see faction play over open maps like Quick play.

At sunday late evening quick match players were completely toxic. Lots of fast mechs running around on their own, lots of snipers, was impossible to perform in that chaos.
Then I've returned to the Faction Play and played a completely normal game, because in the siege mod less room for stupidy.
We've played the Conquest mod (FP) yesterday )

Yeah, but siege mode is fixed into this specific format of lanes and gates. It would have been better if you weren't funneled so rigidly. But the idea was that destroying the turret would always be an uphill battle. This is very clear on the first map, Boreal. It's really challenging to get past the gates unless you're with the clearly better team. I don't know why they deliberately designed chokepoints but that's a major issue with those maps as I see it. It would be super awesome if you could pick your spawn location for the dropship to, say, 3 drop zones. I wonder if that is at all feasible. I would have thought they would have looked into it years ago if it was possible.
