I am all for PGI running as many events and variations of them as possible: it's great for variety, obviously awesome for us players to rack up rewards and hopefully, might draw in some new players. The Faction Play event was cool, with decent rewards and it was good to see so many new players trying it out...BUT as we know, the game mode plays differently from QP.

The addition of drop decks to QP maps during previous events hasn't quite taught players the does and don'ts of utilising those extra 'Mechs in the best way. Too many players brought poorly setup and skilled 'Mechs, then proceeded to die quickly, respawn and charge straight back into the fight. Only to be out of 'Mechs within 10 minutes of the match starting: not great for the team and definitely not great experience for the player.

The first step in getting to grips with the mode is being armed with good information. However, most of the FP game mode guides are old: dating back years in some cases but the pinned guide by Yondu Udonta is actually good. It's straight forward but most importantly has very good build suggestions to start a drop deck for either Clan or Inner Sphere. I would suggest that anyone wanting to try out Faction Play should take a look at it, whether it's in preparation of the next event of just thinking of trying the mode in between times.

Most players that are experienced in Faction Play will have optimised drop decks for specific maps or strategies with tailored builds and appropriately filled skill trees, so don't go into the mode thinking it will be easy: the warning that pops up is there for a reason.
