Infantry existed and battled mechs but were highly ineffective. Think of it as in WWII when a tank showed up in an infantry battlefield. They are game changers and are very difficult to knock down without special weaponry. Same in mechwarrior universe, some mech variants (mostly machine gun mechs) were built vs infantry.

In the board game, a machine gun mech is basically useless against another mech. Even AC/2 are a bad idea in the boardgame except for their long range. But you have to use any tools you had when roleplaying cause the MWO store cannot be used :).

Talking of infantry, mini-mechs and other "combat pets"...
What about something like this (Elemental battlesuit infantry VS Delphyne protomech):

Protomechs, on the other hand, also excellent infantry-counters (like Harpy or Siren what armed MGs).

Oooo... I don't think combat pets would be a good idea. You'd be essentially talking about AI driven bot players, even if they're smaller than mechs driven by human players. You'd end up with situations where a player's performance would be artificially improved or reduced by the skill of an AI. In some cases teams could even lose a game due to losing to the abilities of a computer rather than other human players.

It could be the opposite. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image
