I discovered this game about 3 months ago, and really, I have no idea what this game is about(the only reason why joined, is because I'm a big fan of mecha). So, please, describe this game, factions, etc., for I am just a clueless 14 year old with an addiction to Japanese mecha shows :3. Thanks!

It's not anime mecha..it's..a retelling of the Roman Empire's fall..set in space..with giant walking robots that are really suits of armor..with really big guns..and a cast of characters that's really astoundingly well detailed and documented.

Visit Sarna net and literally just pick a random page and just start exploring. That's some of the best way I found to enjoy a universe is to just throw myself into the bits and explore as I go. It also gives you a great time sink when you are bored.

No need to be too worried, some of the folks round ere get lil antsy mentioning anime mecha(I blame the unseen issue) but really Battletech is a large complicated thing and besides just vague summary I'd suggest just messing around on the sarna net.

MWO will be a mech combat game with mechs from the 3049 era and forward(as time progresses) and ideally it will be a mix of the best portions of both it's tabletop originator and mechwarrior game predecessors(excluding mechassault DONT EVER BRING UP THAT GAME). Needless to say if you enjoy giant robots at any level you will most assuredly enjoy this game.

Go to youtube and check out some of the footage of the previous mechwarrior games. That will give you an idea of what will be coming.

Well from the gameplay perspective, we have no idea, but from the look perspective, BTech is western look on 'mechs (i.e. you actually believe this stuff will once replace military). ^_^

Check out MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis Wars mod, that gives probably the most recent take on MechWarrior gameplay wise

i have been a big fan of MW for many years, MW3 was excelent and MW4 merc as well. I admit i have not read every post, but please tell me this game wont have the need to play for years just to be able to use an assult mech. By that i mean, if any of you are familiar with EVEonline, the need to train skills ingame.

Diamondback,
The devs have come up with a plan that wil allow everyone to start with the mech class of their choice. So if you want Assault you can do it at launch. That said they also said every class will have a viable place in the game, so if you would feel better in a different class and were just worried about getting smoked by all the larger mechs, then pick the type of combat you want to do, not just the biggest.

so you wont have to spend 2 years like in EVE to be able to pilot the biggest stuff.

This is a misconception of sorts in EVE Online. While your correct you might have to spend a long time to train certain ships, mostly the capital class ones. Most of the actions happens in Battlecrusiers and down. You can have a lot of fun PVP wise in EVE Online with only a few months of training and be as effective or more effective than someone with 5 years of training. It's a perception thing.

I was in EVE for a long time, when i stopped i could pilot a dreadnaught and a carrier. I was just hopeing we wouldnt have to go threw all the training. I've been piloting mechs long then starships lol.

thanks for the quick replys, it has eased my mind.

Are you by any chance insinuating that EVE-Online does it wrong to not allow every nOOb 20 minutes into game to fly around in a capital ship and try to blow up mining towers or something? ^_^ Yeah, indeed, EVE-O is not at all about instant gratification. For that part I'd rather think of your average FPS.

But don't fret, PGI made it pretty clear we won't get anything like EVE, no persistant world, and not the "full MMO" level of complexity. Although we cannot be sure either, that the actual handling of a BattleMech in game will not require to spend some quality time with it. Before you can start hitting that barn 25 meters to your front... :(
