A lot of mechs in MWO don't have Jump Jets, even though some of these mechs could've get a lot of interesting use out of them. So i propose two alternatives:

1. Just add more Jump-capable mechs variants. I know that a lot of chassis have at least one variant with JJs, and some mechs, like battlemaster, could really use them to make interesting builds.

2. Add a new equipment item called "Jump Jet Exaustion Shaft" that would weight 1 tons, take 1 slot and would allow to mount 2 JJs in component that has it. This way mechs that don't have JJs normally will be able to equip them, but at the cost of more tonnage spent for them. I personally like this variant more, because it would allow for much more interesting redesigns of already established mech builds. Probably would be worth it to make them different between different JJ types (medium, heavy and assault), but idk about that.

As for Improved JJs, i think it would be cool to have them. I remember that there was a skill tree related to "forward thrust" of Jump Jets, but it got deleted for some reason. So why dont make that old skill tree into a new lore-friendly piece of equipment?

I propose making improved JJs this way: They weight twice as much as the normal JJs and take up twice as much space, just like in TT BattleTech, and they not only propell mech upwards but also allow mech to dash forward at increased speed. Basically their "forward thrust" should be so high that they would shoot the mech forward at much bigger speed that his running speed, or at least the usual expected running speed of mech's class. As a balancing factor either make them recharge much slower than normal JJs or make their burn time much less than the one of normal JJs. I personally like the latter variant more, it would make them into a tool of rapit repositioning, something that heavy or assault mechs really need from time to time. And with Improved JJs these slower mechs will be able to get this much needed mobility by paying a big tonnage fee for that.

EDIT: Another way of making Improved JJs is to not bother with horizontal mobility, and instead make them propell mech's MUCH faster than normal JJs, with no other changes. This way their increased size and weight will be logically justifiable, as they would also mount engines of twice as higher strength.

Oh, and also Improved JJs, in any of their form, should generate only 40% of normal JJs heat.
