The problem with the possibility of choosing one faction from many is that the developer must inevitably split its resources dedicated to the "Faction characterization" task among various sub-groups, if you know what I mean.

In MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries you had four factions available, but with the exception of a few details there was no big difference between them.

I would rather see MechWarrior 5: Clans be like MechWarrior 2: Ghost Bear's Legacy, i.e. a game where you really get the feel of being a member of one specific Clan.

What do you mean? Tier 1 awaits you! Posted Image

meh its not like there is a whole lot of story depth to MW5: Mercs anyway and i don't see MW5: Clans being any different. PGI's track record on such things is lack luster to say the least.

also i feel ya in the losing streak, when i am having one off those days i just sort of log off for the day and try again another dday.

Sure, but there is a lot of canon stuff regarding the Smoke Jaguars that PGI can just copy from the BattleTech sources.

I decided to give up on chasing tier progression, I was doing well then decided to try out clan Hunchbacks, two terrible games later straight down to tier 3.

Just play 'Mechs that you have fun with.

By the way, what variants did you deploy in?

HBK-IIC(0) with two of those HAGs and a pair of ER Mediums, it feels to fragile.

HAGs give you a lot of range. You do not have to close too much.

yeah I've had one good game but first two were horrible and I just got destroyed. I figure since I like playing around with builds I shouldn't put to much focus on tier progressing as I'm gonna end up with some bad games.

The PGI's MWO matchmaker sucks. Sometimes you are going to end up on the losing team, no matter what you do.

HAGs work a bit like a long-range auto-shotgun. Their cone of fire means that their true optimal range is less than their damage falloff range, much like LB-X systems.

Think it was just the fact I realised they don't have access to clan XLs, they are normal ones so I'd just explode.

PGI's matchmaker isn't to blame for a lot of the things people blame the matchmaker for. "Steamrolls," for example, are inherent in the way the game works. Battletech, to include MWO, is a game of skilled attrition, and chances are, with 12 people to a team, someone's going to make a critical mistake and either be crippled or too damaged to expose themselves to much risk. That means that the first team to have a screw-up is down firepower, which tends to make their attrition go faster, which puts them down more firepower, etc, etc. That's why it is rare to have the match come down to 2-3 'mechs on each team.

And you should expect to have streaks, losing and winning. That's how truly random results work, and that's what will happen if the matchmaker is working properly. The matchmaker is not - and should not be - trying to enforce a 1:1 win-loss ratio. It just wants the odds of your winning to be as close to even as possible. If you flip a coin enough times, you're going to see it come up heads multiple times in a row; it's now random chance works - but we don't expect it to be that way. That's why most games have hidden mechanics that actually fudge random game factors (like jam chance) to make them seem random to us.

Uh, Clan Battlemechs are using Clan technology, including XLs. Probably it was people identifying you as a weapon platform and isolating your torsos to kill you fast.

I mean, you have structure bonuses on that chassis, but not armor, so it's going to be deceptively easy to kill.

Ah k, in the end it just felt like a really weaker version of my Sun Spider, didn't enjoy it much.

Is it worth taking reinforced casing on mechs?

I don't, historically, but I might be wrong about that. I took a long hiatus, and when I left it wasn't very good; a ton of things changed in the interim though. Since crits do 15% bonus damage to structure, reducing them will help survivability, but I'm not sure whether it's worth the points. Of course, the more structure you have, the more valuable that is, but structure isn't very good compared to armor. What I'm trying to say here is that I could be wrong, but I don't think it's worth it for your Hunchback-IIC, even with its structure quirks.

So in this game and this guy was killing people with headshots should I report him? He hit me twice and killed others with headshots to, he must have been aim botting right?

I would show a screenshot but I can't figure out how to add one here.

You should report him if you suspect aimbotting, but depending on how much you and your teammates were moving laterally, he might have been a lucky smurf - some people make alt accounts to play in lower tiers, so there's a small possibility that you just ran into someone who was lucky about their marksmanship and targeting heads. I've known people to take advanced zoom on AC/20s and pulse lasers just for that purpose. However, getting a lot of headshots in a match is suspicious, so it won't hurt to report him. Cheaters in online games never cheat just once, so if they're cheating, there'll be a pattern of it. If there's no pattern when PGI looks at their match telemetry, they won't be punished, so it's safe to report them. Just send the screenshots and any other info you have to PGI Support.

Another thing to remember about headshots is that it's a lot easier to make them if your target isn't moving from side to side; try to make sure you peek over ridges at an angle, twist your torso to spread damage, and avoid standing still.

Finally, in order to post a screenshot, you have to host it someplace like Imgur - however, posting identifiable information to call out a player's in-game behavior (whether cheating, harassment, etc) is expressly forbidden by the forum rules. That sort of thing should go to PGI for investigation rather than being hashed out here.

When ever I try images it just says You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.

Edit: Nevermind, can't use the image button in the editor, have to input the bbcode yourself, I figured it out.

There you go! But just the screen shot doesn't really tell us anything is amiss. Send your screen shot(s) to PGI - they'll be able to look at information we don't have and investigate the possibility of cheating.
