What is your opinion about the x-pulse lasers after the patch? I am really on the fence.

I took them just a few times, so it is difficult to judge, but I am not sure if the increased damage is worth the increased heat.

the small ones still "feel" not quite right for me in terms of dps and heat; although the latter isn't necessarily a real problem on my preferred mechs

Heat/damage ratio being around the same as regular pulse lasers is pretty dumb and makes the X-pulse relatively useless. There has to be some benefit for forcing you to have a staring contest with the enemy and accepting the damage in your face over shooting and going back behind a corner to hide or twisting away and spreading the damage you receive.

i like to use them on machine gun mechs as a supplemental weapon to take up unused energy slots and to consume the otherwise unused heat capacity. other than that, meh.

This.

I recommended they make X-Pulse 10-15% more damage / heat efficient than regular Pulse lasers. They didn't listen to me (as usual) and failed as a result. (as usual)

Used six medium x pulses with three medium lasers then I used six medium x pulses and two small x pulses and so forth then compared them to just using 9 ermedium lasers and the amount of heat and the time to do about the same damage was far worse then the nine ermediums. If they can cooler it could be useful on a mech meant to support brawling assaults .......you know something where you are not the main target lol.

Used the HBK4P for testing.

After patch DPH is better for every XPL, but yep kinda stupid to increase heat... I would have probably lowered it instead.

sustained DPS on HBK-4P is pretty close on 9x MXPL and 9xERML but max DPS is almost 3 times higher for MXPLs, so kinda depends how long you are shooting.. If you shoot for a second sure ERMLs are gonna do more dmg but if you can shoot for 4 seconds MXPLs are going to do A LOT more damage, like almost 3x more.

If mechs db is right dph of xpuls is rly good 1.65 region. Not tested yet, but compared to racs (similar face time) the dps is just to low. And even the benefit over normal puls is quite low given the downsides. Just another hard to balance weapon. Make them useful in T1 and they will destroy potato land

I just can not see some compelling reason for some big switching to X-Pulse lasers, so to speak. Posted Image I will give them some more testing in a few weekend games.

Not much. While the range of medium and large X-Pulse lasers is measured in hundreds of metres, the effective range of Flamer is 90 metres.

Facetime is the antithesis of the current meta. If people want to run a facetime DPS mech, why wouldn't they just use RACs instead?

XPs don't have the DPS or the Alpha, they don't promote twisting, and their biggest draw, heat, was recently nerfed.

What's the point of them?

you use BOTH! DPS!
anh-2a
kgc-000b
anh-1x

And heat wasn't really nerfed they have as good or better damage per heat than before patch.

Heat wasn't nerfed. You do slightly more damage for the same heat, and you do it in a tighter window, which means the facetime requirements are less.
