If its decided to have travel time between systems in the game, then make it so everyone in "travel mode" (on jumpships) can play only unranked matches that have no effect on the "real world" outside the jumpship. This could be explained in-game as pilots participating in simulated battles to keep their skills sharp while travelling between systems.

Okay, so you're about the thousandth person -no, I have NOT actually kept count- who's said the ghost idea I came up with a LONG time back, is a good idea. I agree with you.

Not a bad idea at all, it does hinge on whether they do implement it as you say but I can think of no better alternative. Certainly beats sitting waiting for the timer to countdown before you can get back into the action.

Wow, you're kidding, right? I've actually presented it in something like five threads. The basic idea is what the OP posted. An individual logs on, checks to see if their unit is in a fight or is getting ready to fight. If their unit doesn't need anything, there's no training, no simulator time, nothing, the player goes to a personal lobby, finds a listing of fights in drop prep, or maybe even that have dropped, finds a fight they like, finds a 'Mech they like, hits the launch button and either drops directly into the fight, or shows they're prepped and ready to go for an upcoming fight. I would presume this will be much like how the game will handle Lone Wolves dropping into faction fights. However, certain recent information from the devs says people will be able to get LPs which, eventually, may allow them to fight for or with other units in the game.

This is great an all, untill the RL breaks in and a player who has been waiting days to be in a 'real fight' misses the battle and his unit is back in space traveling again and he is left with his simulator. Some stuff does need fairy dust. Not to mention, i dont think a simulator would help you get Mech/Pilot XP
