Ok... In general I like the Hyper Assault Gauss addition to the clan's arsenal, not a fan of the last tweaks made to it, HAGs were already too good when first released imo, ok cool, but where does that leave the gauss rifle? It has become redundant! You drive a clan mech, you want a gauss weapon you want the HAGs any of them three varieties offers a good compromise of weight, space, despite the higher risk of explosion from the weapon itself...or is there something I'm missing? Would like to read some opinions.

I compare them to autocannons. Nobody uses a regular clan autocannon because the Ultra is the same tonnage for twice the damage with a few minor limits.

For 1 ton and 2 spaces more, a HAG 30 does twice the damage of a Gauss. Yes the damage is spread out a little and there’s heat, but it’s less heat and tonnage than pairing 2 gauss and 2 ERPPC, with the drawback of spread.

so there may be reasons to use regular Gauss over HAG, but those reasons will soon become niche builds like clan mechs with regular autocannons.

From my little experimentation they are better if you are looking for more hide and seek style and if you can aim properly. Posted Image

They are lighter and smaller, if I remove my double 30 and put on normal gauss guns, I can put more ammo, 2 more lasers and a combination of heat sinks or jumps and my AMS is suddenly not even an issue.

Yes they deal less damage, two of them deal same damage as SINGLE 30, but they also shoot where you want them and shoot 1 projectile.

With the bigger variants, you will almost always miss your shots (miss meaning it goes into different body part), when you are moving or your target is moving its difficult to keep all 12-16 shots on single place.
You also need to stand there for all 12 shots to shoot (which will get slightly better with the next upgrade Posted Image)

With the normal gauss you just shoot where you want, deal lots of damage and move away. Posted Image

That is the big problem with MWO balanceing philosophy - it leaves certain weapons obsolete and unused only because new ones are made too strong. Why use two large lasers if you can use BLC for 1 less ton? Why use GR if you can use HAGs that deal much more damage with no real downside? This is a problem, and i think HAGs should have had spread similar to LBX spread, or just slightly less.
