Looking at the stats for HAG20s versus Clan-Gauss, I do not see why anyone even bothers with std. Clan Gauss. Only real difference in favor of the std. Clan Gauss is the heat and single slug. Sure, Max Range is better, but how often does that factor into a match?

I believe std. Clan Gauss could probably do with a SLIGHT buff, so they can be better distinguished from the HAG20s.

Standard Gauss Rifle also fires a faster projectile.

Accuracy vs damage. HAG20 isnt that good, you want at least 2 and you want at least HAG30. Now with splash added to HAG they are much closer to each other, so if you want to actually blow up things you should pick regular gauss guns.Posted Image

If you want HAG you always want that 30 or 40 variant and thats where they are better than any other ballistic weapon, that smaller variant is better only if you dont care about aiming.

If I want more pew pews on my Torsie1 blood asp, I always downgrade to regular gauss gun instead of going 30 -> 20.Posted Image

My answer to this... heat. You can pair ERPPCs with Gauss, but if you pair them with HAG's you're going to run extra hot.

There's a big difference in weapon performance between multiple smaller slugs and a single pinpoint strike. HAGs were just buffed with faster burst speed - but also lost 20% of their pinpoint damage to splash. So you're looking at a burst-fire weapon that can be spread versus a single-hit weapon that doesn't. The raw damage is better for the HAG, but it runs hotter and spreads damage against any moving target.

The difference in heat is extremely significant. Rather than the almost-nonexistent heat of a standard Gauss Rifle, even the HAG/20 is hotter than any other ballistic weapon type in the game, and the HAG/40 is just one half-point cooler than an ERPPC.

I'd say that it's the HAGs that should get some kind of nerf to keep them in line with other gauss weapons. but yes, C-Gauss is kind of obsolete. And people that talk about accuracy don't take in consideration that assault mechs that move at 50-55 KPH can't really dodge anything, so it's more or less PPFLD against slow targets.

You might want to go read the patch notes.
Also remember that torso twisting is a thing, and that even hitscan weapons still spread damage against a target moving ~50kph.

If you are a fat assault that just happened to accidentaly show yourself to sniper who is sitting at 900 meters away outside of your sensor range, no level of awareness will save you from unexpected HAG40 salvo to your side torso or center torso. Yes, new patch does help (supposedly), but it's still kind of overshadowing C-gauss.

A 20% nerf to pinpoint damage does more than "supposedly" help.

As others have said, pinpoint damage, heat, projectile velocity, but one thing worth mentioning is also that you don't need as much face time to deal damage with gauss + erppc - you just peek out, shoot, done. no waiting for burst to finish and taking a bunch of return fire.
