I'm central US. When I get on Oceanic, I feel like I might as well just leave the game. It's not fun at all. I click, and a half second later I shoot, and my shot doesn't go anywhere near where I aimed. Missile lockon has an extra delay before you can fire, so that's more difficult as well.

I'm taking hits. I click, but my guns don't work. Then a second later I die.

Playing cross-server has such a bad feel. I'd rather just be told "there's no matches on US, try again later."

Try this:

1. Log into the game and click that narrow button.




2. A small settings tab opens, showing three possible servers.




3. Uncheck "Oceanic" and "European" servers, keep only the "North American" server..




4. Click "Play".




5. If you wish, you can read some extra info.




6. From this time forward, the matchmaker uses only the North American server when looking for games for you.



I hope that this will solve your problem.

However, you should expect that the waiting times for you will increase.

I've had Oceanic unchecked for quite some time. My ping is never under 300 there. NA and Europe work fine for my NA based connection, so I would recommend leaving Europe checked, otherwise you'll wait longer to get a match... and that's just as frustrating.

The arrow does nothing for me. No popup opens when I click on it.

I mouseover, and it says "Set matchmaking preferences". But I click on it, the button turns dark, but no popup appears.

I had looked into how to set these preferences a few months ago, and from what I can tell the general consensus was that they removed the ability to.

I got it now.

I had to exit game and come back in for it to work.

This is a common problem. You must repeat it until that small tab appears.

I have all 3 to help all people get into game.

It is sometimes funny to see 23 people with ping 300+ and 1 person with 20.

because thats half a second ... at worst youre probably seeing a quarter second

Same, mine doesn't work most of the time.

There is a way to exit the game and manually set it, I forget how. It's a PITA, I just ignore it and accept the ping penalty.

~350 ping for Europe and Oceanic is normal for me. Even USA frequently gets over 200 for me.

the server regional preferences are like bigfoot, if you manage to find one, nobody will believe you.

of course im in alaska so my ping to all 3 are more or less the the same.

Ping is often stable >300 to those regions.

But yes. Please tell me more about your assumptions of my experiences.

My ping hovers around 270-340ms since launch - it is fine.

It's around 360+ when frames skip but playable around 370ms.

At 400, lights start to teleport slightly and at 600ms+ RACs shoot by themselves if you press even so slightly, teamkill if lucky.

Around this time, even assaults teleport around.

If you find that you can't set server preference in the way martian described, it's a bug. There's a few ways to circumvent that:

• restart the client. This should always work, but it's annoying.
  
• switch into faction play and directly back out again. This has often helped me.
  
• open a group and set preferences there, then leave the group again.

The bug manifests itself randomly. Sometimes the button works on the first try, sometimes it does not work, no matter what you try.

But I think that many players use this button very infrequently, so fixing the bug is probably a low priority task for PGI.

I play from regional Australia on any server. We're just built different here.

But sure, tells us more about how a hundred extra milliseconds is "half a second", and weapon fire which is clientside somehow becomes server side for you just when playing oceanic.

It depends what u are used to and especially changes in latency and fps rly kill me. If the ping goes beyond 150 or fps dips under 80 i start dying. Not everyone is equally sensitive to this stuff.

I played many games on the Oceanic server in December 2023.

I have oceanic unchecked but not because of the ping but because of random disconnects that don't happen on the na or eu servers. But I'm east coast US so thats a lot of hops to get to it.
