Hi y'all, I'm kind of at the end of my patience trying to figure out this problem I keep having with MWO. Far too often, having the game on is messing with my keyboard, by making inputs stick. Hit the button to turn right and it just keeps turning even after I've released the key, won't stop moving forward, etc. It will effect other applications if the game is on as well, go to type a quick sentence on Discord and suddenly it types fifteen E's in a row with one button press. Its been ongoing for months now, and when it happens it makes the game basically unplayable. I've searched for answers, reinstalled the game multiple times, changed keyboards, read through the event log, and I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing such a thing?

I appreciate anyone who may have the barest hint of glimmer of insight!

Does this sort of behaviour happen with other games?

And has it only just started or has it existed the entire time?

The fact that it's happening in Discord too says it must be a keyboard issue.
Maybe you have Sticky Keys enabled? Maybe you need to clean your keyboard, pull the keys out and clean the debris out.
Fun fact, I once pulled a quarter ounce of marijuana shake out of my keyboard.

Doesn't happen with any other games, and it happens with every keyboard I try, so it is not the keyboard itself. I have tried it with both wired and wireless keyboards, and it keeps cropping up. It started a few months back towards the beginning of the year but never happened prior to that. No sticky keys either.

Hmm, are there joysticks or similar accessories hooked up? Or a program to emulate a joystick/gamepad? Disconnect them/deactivate them.

Does it happen every time you play MWO? Do you have Discord up at the time? And do you have the Discord overlay active?

It doesn't seem to happen every time, but almost all. And yeah, I typically have Discord up, but not the overlay.

This happens to me under two conditions

if I'm holding an input and alt+tab back to desktop
if I'm holding multiple keys and use a voip key on the keyboard

I'm pretty sure its my keyboard not being able to handle inputs from many different keys and for some reason it just stays stuck on one input. Could be the same thing for you. I'd try other keyboards, or if you have more monitors just play in windowed mode and keep Discord in other window.

The keys can get stuck when the language change shortcut is pressed (ALT+SHIFT by default so can often happen with MASC).
A possible workaround for Windows 10:
Open the Windows Start menu and search for Advanced Keyboard Options
Click on Language bar options
Open the Advanced Key Settings tab
Select Between input languages and click Change Key Sequence
Select a different key sequence

Ohhhh so ~thats~ why when I try to bind an alt+shift+key it screws up. Damnit windows 10 they added so many dodgy 'features' that screw with so much basic stuff. I have to spend at least an hour after a new install to get rid of all the bloat and crap and now something new to add to the list.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to move this thread to the Workarounds section.

Somebody with the same problem would probably check the "Workarounds" section first.

Ok on my win10 install there is no advanced keyboard options in the start menu. However when I opened settings and typed in the search bar advanced keyboard settings you will get the proper tab to change the binds. I noticed that ctrl+shift was also defaulted to switching the keyboard layout and that explains a few things too... Disabled both.

thing is they have broken keyboard shortcuts that have been a thing since at least win95. progress, now called renaming things. my favorite windows was actually 2k, clean and pure without any bloat. nobody sells a clean os anymore. linux can be bloated too depending on distro. ms has an ltsc license thats really hard to get, really clean base install. use it on my #2 machine. corrupting your os is your job, your os shouldn't come that way by default.
