As the title says. I find that I can barely see anything but moving shadows on ceres but I'm blinded in frozen city. Anyone experiencing the same thing? What settings should I be using for my game and also for my actual monitor.

Thank you!

I brighten the game from it's default setting, and use thermal vision if I'm snow blinded.

You can use various vision modes:
  • visible light
  • heat vision (press "H")
  • night vision (press "N")
I use these vision modes without changing the settings of my monitor.

I think that by "visible light" martian means the default vision.

About OP's problem, it might be solved with video filters I guess (on your graphic card program)

Dark Maps Too Dark, Bright Maps Too Bright

Yes!

The only game I ever play where I have to constantly **** around with brightness and contrast in order to make it playable.

Probably the only game ever actually, and I've been hitting games since around 1982 on my Apple IIc.

Seriously, not sure why this is so hard for MWO developers to figure out?

Yes, you can tweak video settings every map, but OMG why should you have to?

Heat mode and night vision both also mean losing about 25% of your visual range, in my experience, so not legitimate alternatives unless you like getting picked off by others who can see you, but you can't see back...

H and N are the two alternate vision modes. Press the same key again to go back to default vision mode.

I've found the two alternate vision modes to be adequate. I despise the super bright with extra fog/snow Frozen City map though. Immersion is fine but that one's a tad over the top, imho.

There is in game settings... and there's graphics driver settings... and here is where it get starts to get a bit crazy. There are monitor settings. You awant to know where things get totally whack though? There is different quality of monitors. Not crazy enough for you? There is even different lighting conditions that you could be playing in.

Based on the complete absence of information you have provided... it's kind of awkward to work out where the problem is, or if it even is a problem and not just an eyesight issue.

I do not have this issue. If you're not able to see, check your settings - I presume you've already tried the in-game settings, and likely your video card is adjusted for good performance, but monitor settings can be a blind spot. I once had a monitor that I got a good price on (I also had a budget.) I forget the brand, and it worked ok, but the colors were constantly muted. I fiddled with my graphics card and game settings until it was kind of ok, and figured I'd just bought a low-quality monitor - until I found the monitor menu (by using the buttons on it; there was no software control panel) and noticed an "RTS Mode." Turned that crap off and viola! Things looked pretty! Turns out that the monitor was intended for RTS games, and muted the colors to supposedly make it easier to see individual units or something.

Moral of the story is, check all your hardware, and your software, because if not everyone is having your issue, it means that it isn't just the game being "not figured out" - and it also means the problem is fixable.

It's also worth mentioning that everyone sees differently. Colours are not the same for everyone, nor contrast or brightness. PGI cannot make a one-size-fits-all solution.

BEa
I change my settings for every map. Ice maps get 40/40 (except night ice maps like classic night ice city and bear claw, those get 60/60), darker maps I put it on anywhere from 70/70 to 100/100.

I play on a small laptop, FWIW, maybe folks with big screens don't need to change settings constantly... but I do.

It's been years since I played on a big screen, but IIRC I still had to adjust every match to get the best visuals. I've tried playing with is st at 50/50 and it is doable, but still less than idea. This game really needs an update for it's graphics and color balance, Mechwarrior 5 is much better in that department.

And night vision in MWO is basically useless, 1st gen Russian optics from the 1980s give better clarity.
