Been a lot of discussions here and (mostly) on Reddit about where to find the hero mechs, and a full list. To keep track of my own progress, I made a list for my game night toon. Also been accumulating lots of MASC and Superchargers to use with Yet Another Mech Lab mod. Wanted to share the list, and where I found them. Not complete by any means, but wanted to share with the community. Many of them I found by just shopping around, and didn't note where I got them. You'll see a big lack of noting the lights and mediums. Most of those were just purchased to get them from showing up again.

For the most part, I think 98% of them were found in the industrial hubs closest to Terra, and the two larger hubs found about mid way through Steiner and Kurita space.

Please post where you might have found your favorite hero mechs. I'll update as I play through my Steiner toon.

Edited for ones I found in my latest play thru, and added Capellan Confederation. It is really looking more like most are just RNG. Really annoying when it shows up on a planet you just came off.

(knowing this is an old-@$$ thread that no one else has answered...)
Yes, I can testify that they're pretty random. I have about half of the hero 'mechs, and got most of them in the FWL.
I've been making good money at a particular conflict zone (FWL Commerce Hub or something) where I make good money, repair bills are light, and there are 2 industrial hubs nearby. The farther industrial hub keeps spawning a new hero mech about every 2 or 3 visits.

I blow money on a hero mech, then the game regenerates multi-mission contracts, and I can make the money back.

I have a lot of dumb hero mechs in cold storage, because I read someone's explanation that
each hero mech in MW5 is literally one of a kind. Therefore, if the RNG decides it's going to offer you a hero mech, every one you own narrows down the RNGs choices.

...So I'm buying a lot hero mechs I didn't want, sacrificing C-Bills to RNGesus. Posted Image

EDIT: It’s not necessarily self-evident, but geography makes a difference for all the non-hero ‘mechs on the market.
Each industrial hub is going to be somewhat consistent about what class of ‘mechs they sell, depending on the nearby conflict zones.
If a conflict zone recommends a reputation of 8, the nearest industrial hub will probably sell penny-ante medium ‘mechs, a limited selection of weapons, and they’ll almost all be low-tier weapons.

When you want to go shopping for assault ‘mechs, find a conflict zone that recommends a reputation of 12 or more, and check out the nearest industrial hub. It’s better still if there’s an industrial hub between high-reputation conflict zones.
