Well, new game starts and ... none of your teammates are moving so you have to reverse to get around. Not an ideal start, but all ready to go kill some reds.
Except someone behind you is "testing" their PPCs and shoots your leg. Obviously they've never fired a PPC before, or a flamer, laser, machine gun or AC20.
My first instinct is to wait three seconds for a "Sorry", otherwise I'm going to commit a war crime right here and now. But I restrain myself and give them the benefit of the doubt. Until I see them continuing this behaviour and start wondering how we actually turn this into a teachable moment.
I'd like to give all mechs limited invulnerability for the first 10 seconds of a match. Long enough to avoid mistakes but short enough to not impact legitimate hits by enemy mechs. It would also minimise damage from those players who think starts are some type of contact sport.
Fixing the first problem just requires PGI to spread mechs out a bit more on drop...

If I may throw my very humble opinion in here. I never believe in things like making mechs immune to damage for the first 10 seconds. It's micro-management I really don't care for. What's stopping that player from testing their weapons at 11 seconds? For me it comes down to using common sense, or learning to. It's like when at the very start of a match, a mech crosses your path, bumps into you and now you are at 99% armor. A big deal? No. Annoying, yes. I never do that. I try hard to move a bit away from other mechs along a clear path. That being said, sometimes accidents plain and simply happen.
Taking team damage is annoying too. If I'm at range and a teammate is brawling in a circle in front of me with another mech, going round in a circle, I stop shooting as the brawler is crossing my crosshairs, and then continue shooting again. But again, sometimes in the heat of the moment accidents happen. I feel crappy, give myself ****, and then continue on. Just yesterday, I was using advance zoom and focused intently on my target. I failed to see my teammate moving up beside me on my left, and slightly in front of me. I shot him/her on the right rear torso a decent amount. I felt awful and could only carry on. I should of apologized, but in the heat of battle I didn't.
Anyway, I hope there is some sense in my reply and I do understand where you are coming from.
