I do not know whose bright idea it was to put out in the patch notes "Quickplay map voting pool weights: All map weights are equalized. This means that each map now has the same chance to show up in the voting pool. ", But I call complete RUBBISH! Why? because the same 2 maps came up 3 games in a row! Frozen City and Canyon network. This has happened more than once. If all the maps were actually equalized, this would NOT happen! But truthfully you, and by you, I mean (PGI/Cauldron), are really starting to sound like a certain 90-degree list to port media outlet.

If you really want to make a difference! Like a previous post said, REMOVE map voting system COMPLETELY! You did it for Community Warfare! Now why not for QP?! There are sooo many reasons why this would be beneficial for the game as a whole, not just giving all the elitist electronic assisted co-pilot having, 1-v-1 me bro oil stains what they want just so they'll stop whining!

Also, put back in all the old maps too! Like Classic Forest Colony, Classic HPG, Classic Terra Therma, Classic Sulfurous Rift! Every map that was made for the game, bring those back and put into the mix! Then and only then will every map have a true equal chance. But for now, I call complete and utter Rubbish!

Couple things:

You think map frequency being equalized is bad? That the same few maps being voted for again and again, sucks? Well, it's potentially a lot worse than that as you left out the real kicker: "After a period, we will analyze player voting data of which maps they want to play on to set new map weights." If that means keeping these few popular maps in rotation with greater intentional frequency because players want to play them because that's what the "data" says, then map fatigue will be far worse down the road.

As to old maps, particularly classic forest colony, that map was removed because it was one of those wherein if players had the right graphic setting modifications they could make certain terrain aspects disappear (like trees blocking line of sight) so PGI was forced to remove it, as a fix was not viable (unlike Bog where the lily pads were able to be redone allowing that map to remain). Certain other classic/old maps were removed because they were deemed to be too predictable (e.g., original HPG, original Terra), too open (I guess) (e.g., Polar Highlands).

cauldronify the map making process.

can you imagine this game with user submitted maps. granted a lot of those will be crap but there are usually more than enough good ones to make up for it.

I would like to see old maps too (at least HPG and polar). Plus night jungle with fireflies.

Mark Nicholson was asked about this, when he was still a PGI employee. His answer was: "This is not going to happen."

Yeah, I'm going to have to ask you how any of this has to do with equal random chance being the cause for 24 players voting for the same maps out of randomly generated map pools.

I remember back in the old days of Medal of Honor where clans ran dedicated servers with whatever custom map mixes they wanted. Some were great, some sucked, but when it was your clan making the rules it wasn't a big problem. Public servers are the rule now and you really are not going to see custom player made maps working there.

Also, those new Quake and Doom maps are for games that make MWO look modern.

Anecdotal evidence is routinely suspect and without an actual odds calculation hard to base any decisions on.

We are talking about MechWarrior Online here.

Obviously, PGI wishes to keep the full control over the MWO servers and MWO maps.

Just take the Canyon terrain set and re-arrange it 10 times. I don't need it to look flashy or unique every time. (I'm sure it isn't that simple, but it does seem the new maps were probably over-engineered.)

Also, please add classic HPG back in to the rotation. :)

im more impressed with what can be done on an old engine than how modern a game looks. modern games suck anyway.

hence the cauldron. you have normal users making maps, cauldron verifies them, makes sure they play fair and incorporates all the required components correctly. enable the beta maps in unranked custom games for testing, then maybe hold a vote for which map gets added to the qp rotation and maybe grant the winners a free mech pack.

whats missing is not really technical or even expensive. its just the will to do it.

PGI has had literally 10 years to do that.

Obviously, they are unwilling to do that.

Nobody would do anything for you. You complained about small/NASCAR maps and PGI ruined them via turning into open snipe-fests, nobody wants to play. Couple of maps were fixed after that, like Polar for example. But many are still ruined. So, now you have to live with it. Devs just don't have resources to constantly change maps back and forth. Deal with it.

You may not know but HPG Classic and Caustic Classic are making a comeback very soon (most likely) in their original form with no touchups . Cant wait to VROOOOM again Posted Image , feeling nostalgic already .
