My thought map on how the game should have started.

1. When starting a new game, you would first choose which of the main, 4 invading Clans you would be part of. Each with their own branching story paths. But for these examples, we will continue on as if you choose Smoke Jaguar.

2. You then would customize your character, choosing from a variety of options. naming them, choosing from hair color, skin color, eye color. their height, from short, average, or elemental. a couple different voice options, male or female gender. The males would have different facial hair options. You could even have different body shape options, from skinny, to the average, fit warrior, to elemental, or even one that was more muscle gutted. You would also get to choose which of the skills your pilot used.

3. You would then have your faction opening which would largely be the same thing, juts be set on different locations, with a different voice over. It would introduce your Star, you would go through you final evaluation / tutorial / refresher before your Trial. It would also differ, in that there would be no 8 month time skip here. Instead it would go, tutorial, then trial the next day. Also, you should get to choose which of the available training mechs to use for the tutorial, and your trial, instead of being stuck in the crappy Summoner.

3a.This is also where the first split would happen. As instead of Nazir always dying, it should be a random chance of him either dying, and you getting Naomi, or he surviving, and you keeping him for the actual invasion. Perhaps, the choices you made during the tutorial, how well you all did, and what mechs you chose to take, could affect the odds, for the better or worse.

3b. Also during your trial, you should be allowed to fight all three of your opponents, with changes being made for how well you did. If you only beat one opponent, and start out as just Mechwarrior rank, you would start out with less Honor, less Kerensky Bucks, and only have access to Kit Fox, and Myst Lynx mechs. Make Star Commander, and you would start out with the kerensky's Honor, and Mechs you currently do. Take out all three opponents, to get the best rank, and you start with more Honor, more Kerensky's, and start with the Adder and Shadow Cat as options.

As for the lower or higher ranks commanding a Star, they could add in a line, that the Star Commander that was supposed to command, had something happen to them in transit, so you would have to step up until a replacement could be found. Which would then later result in you having to do another trial, to gain that rank of Star Commander yourself. or if you started as the higher rank, just, say that there wasn't any other opportunity to a higher command at that time, so you would just be stuck commanding the Star for the time.

4. When the invasion starts, you should have enough pilot xp from the tutpotoral, and Trial, to get at least one point into your pilot's skills right away, and maybe even enough for two if you beat all three Trial opponents. You also should start with enough components to start at least one research upgrade, and enough mech xp in the mech you chose to use for the tutorial and Trial, to get one upgrade there.

From that point on, you would continue on your missions on Santander V as currently is done, just with whichever pilot you ended up with, Naomi, or Nasir. And with whatever mechs and resources your rank allowed you.

A couple other things I encountered that could be better.

1. When Ezra is complaining about the food not being any better. You should have the option to declare a trial, where if you win, you get access to better food, which will give your pilots all a boost.

2. After you have defeated the pirates and are preparing to leave Santander, you should have the option to set up any repairs, and research before the cutscene where you travel to Turtle bay. So it can all be worked on while in transit.

MW2 focused on Jade Falcon and Wolf and there was a DLC called Ghost Bear's Legacy. Smoke Jaguar deserved its time in the sun. MW5: Clans is basically the reverse MW3. I'm sure they will have the other invading Clans as DLC in the future. I mean they could milk this with Jade Falcon, Wolf, Ghost Bear, Steel Viper, Nova Cat and Diamond Shark DLCs and make big bucks, but there is nothing wrong with this start.

Additionally, I see the point of scripting the player to get two kills and becoming Star Commander. The point was to place the player in command of their own Star so that makes sense. I have no issue with that. There should be opportunities in the game to get promoted.
