The MechWarrior 5: Clans game is going to get the PvP expansion - Trials of War.

Check the game page for more details.

Meh. Five players max in a mostly ffa setup with ai bots to be team mates. Also private lobby so no logging in to multi and just hitting battle. No friends no fights.

I dont find that very compelling. Too bad, I sure would love a good visual update.

Can we host it on a local server?

Or did the Devs take the lazy way out (same thing they did to MW5 Mercs?) and force us to use a 3rd party host on a crappy/laggy server.

If I can host it on my LAN then I will be buying 5 copies.

If not, you guys fail, again.

You can buy it and try it, if you wish. PGI even put it on sale today.

There are developers on this very site who can chime in and answer this question, before I go and risk wasting money. Posted Image

I wouldn't call it a PVP game. Its an Arena game mode in which you can invite upto 4 friends to play against each other in your campaign sim pod. No match maker etc. Figure Co Op TDM / FFA.

Yep. 5 man FFA 'PVP. I see its already on discount for $15 and every review is negative so probably only sold a handful of copies.

This smells of solaris 7 all over again. Posted Image

Are you talking about the MechWarrior Online Solaris 7 game mode, or about the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Solaris 7 expansion pack? Posted Image

As I was thinking about the Cans DLC, which I bought and played like 2 times (purchase was refunded, so TY PGI!) it occurred to me that the DLC is perhaps a test run of things to come. Perhaps, just perhaps this is a precursor to a complete overhaul of MWO. One feature I especially caught was the scaling of difficulty that may be selected by the player. This appears to be done by adjusting the lethality of the player's weapons - in higher difficulty, your weapons seem to do less damage - OR other possible adjustments. These include (1) adding armor values to the NPC mechs and (2) quirking NPC pilots for Evasion. There may be other mods, but these seem the easiest and most likely.

Now, getting back to MWO, what are the most prevalent criticisms? Matchmaking, groups in soup queue and potentially cheats/hacks/exploits. Maybe they're one and the same, but I look at it as three, possibly contributory items. To restate these in simple terms below:
  • Matchmaking - Tier 1 and Tier 5 players in the same match; Imbalanced teams in terms of mech types; imbalanced teams in terms of tonnage
  • Groups in soup queue - groups can influence match outcome when dropped into imbalanced teams and players; group player ratings do not seem to affect what level player matches they enter; multiple groups can actually drop on a single side in a match.
  • Cheats/hacks/exploits - difficult to document but we've all seen them; aimbot, lag armor, invisible wall and other map exploits, et al.
The Clans NPC difficulty setting could provide an adjustment for some of these discrepancies and differences. High ranking and experienced players might face lower tier/ranked players that have Clan-type quirks as described above. I have been calling for some sort of handicapping system since player counts dropped and group play thrived. This adjustment mechanism seems to me, in some way, to address this and potentially narrow the gap between players' experience while decreasing match wait times (since everyone can now be in any match); making matches more competitive and reducing player frustration overall.
