Hello, I am trying to build a 6x medium X-pulse laser on a PXH-1K which has laser HSL+2 yet I still seem to get ghost heat. Are X-pulse lasers different than regular or is it a bug?

I tried several variations with that mech and it didn't seem like anything other than ML actually worked. MPL was a significant heat hit as well. Think I tried that one with 4 LL too and it wasn't great either.

It's 4.9 heat firing all 6 of them together, it's supposed to be 8-9% heat per alpha, that's just how hot they are.
But hey, at least they still have good DPH (Damage Per Heat) so that heat is actually being translated to damage at a good rate.
If you'd want to, you could even go with 8 MXPL, it can only shoot like 9 times before overheating, sure, but another way to look at it is that "you can do 100 damage in 5 seconds" which is a lot.
Anyway no, there's no ghostheat there either, you're just experiencing what high HPS (Heat Per Second) look like.

Right but firing 3 gives 3% and firing 6 gives 8%, is there like a rounding going on or do they have increased heat when firing 6 that isnt necessarily ghost heat?

Yea, firing 3 gives 2.1 heat, 3% almost 4% on most builds, it's just rounding because the in-game heat meter is just abbreviated like that and also because the weapon heat is being dissipated mid-laser burn even if it's a 0.25s burn.
Likewise with 6 or 8, there's no ghostheat, it's all linear alpha heat increase.
If you want to see what a "soft-ghostheat" looks like you can try some 3MRM30 builds, or the 4MRM30 BSK-3.

MXPL limit should be 6 without any quirks. If you're using testing grounds it doesnt give accurate information about anything. Try lobbies with someone or in match.
Although what Ttly said is likely correct.
