No, the Madcat isn't one of the unseen mechs.
You're probably thinking of the Marauder.

No, but the mad Cat is the one that started all the crap. Harmony Gold copied it and when they got sued, they pulled a dirty trick at FASA. A-holes...
As for the Mad Cat, here's the message by one of the main developers: http://soundcloud.co...-communications

You have this backwards, Harmony Gold and Playmates went after FASA. And the Mad Cat had nothing to do with it. This had to do with Harmony Gold licensing the source material from Studio Nue, and Playmates the toy lines from Tatsunoko, whereas FASA had licensed the model kits from Twentieth Century Imports.

Seems familiar?

This was released by one of the companies under Harmony Gold. When FASA took them to court, they found out that because of the Harmony Gold's aqusition of the former company, the rights FASA paid for were unusable in the US. How the court turned out you already know.

The plot thickens...

- Studio Nue draw up some giant robot designs, but don't yet have any story or project to put them in,
- FASA licenses the artwork from Studio Nue, through Twentieth Century Imports,
- FASA makes Battle
DroidsTech, - Studio Nue makes Super Dimension Fortress Macross,
- Studio Nue offloads ALL international licensing of SDFM to Tatsunuko,
- Harmony Gold licenses SDFM from Tatsunuko, two other anime and mashes them all together into Robotech,
- FASA develops the Clan artwork, story, novels and game supplements,
- FASA enters talks with Playmates (at the time independent of Harmony Gold) about latter making toys/tv show based on #7,
- Playmates peruses the art, then declines FASA's offers,
- Playmates works up and releases Exo-squad,
- FASA freaks out, files suit against Playmates,
- Harmony Gold hears of other people holding North American rights to artwork their cash cow is BASED ON from court filings,
- Judge files in favour of Playmates (how shoddy was the plaintiff's case & arguments to fail against THIS obvious infringement?), but awards nothing to either party,
- Both FASA and Playmates now financially weakened by legal fees,
- Harmony Gold buys up Playmates//Harmony Gold files suit against FASA, (not sure of the order there)
- FASA - now gun shy of the courts, enters into out-of-court (and behind closed doors) settlement with Harmony Gold,
- FASA purges ALL out-of-house, licensed artwork from ANY source that isn't FASA itself,
- Studio Nue assists FASA with Project Phoenix in creating new art for the 'Reseen'.
Also, somewhere in there: ##. Twentieth Century Imports goes out of business.
And what have we learned from this?
- Jordan couldn't argue his way out of a cobweb,
- Harmony Gold isn't evil-evil-evil, just a company protecting its interests,
- Studio Nue are well-intentioned, but ultimately not helpful,
- Lawyers are evil and should be KOS *waves to Gwyd*
