i stacked like 11k mc over two lootbags and smaller events. thats worth 73 mechbays on sale. of course id buy fewer bays and get a couple of the more meta bonused mechs (heroes, specials, etc) and use those to grind cbills, because you will need them to fill the bays.

id also consider legends because the battlepass gives you about 3k mc and an extra mechbay. the legend has a bonus for grinding cbills. the hanging item has an extra 5% bonus (and you can transfer that to other mechs, i think they give you 3 of them), and 2 weeks of banked premium time. the mc can buy 20 bays on sale. and the battlepass can be completed in a day or two. and thats only $15. every now and again you can find a 13 mechbay bundle in the gift store for like $6. either is a good way to bootstrap a new account.

I wouldn't call it "pay to win", but some of the hero/legendary mechs lend themselves to some great builds, I've been working on falling in love with the Argent these last few days, but still not sure what to do with it yet (such flexibility).

Mako is a great mech too

there are a few outliers, like the dreadnaught was brutal. or the mech that initially let you carry 5 ac10s (moonwalker?) until they nerfed it. scattershot and scaleshot were initially very strong but i think both got nerfs. but in almost all cases the nerfs come quickly, usually on the next patch cycle. when putting out a new mech its hard to make an estimate about how powerful it is without testing (which happens in the live game and were the testers). if it turns out to be noticably op, nerfs next patch. but it still exists in the wild for about a month.

and to be fair there are a lot of cbill mechs in the same ballpark performance level as many of the legends.

Hey all, just wanted to post a quick follow-up in case any newer pilots stumble across this thread.

As of now, I’ve put in around 245 hours since starting in January 2025 and have made my way to a quarter into Tier 2. Honestly, I kind of wish my pilot rating hadn’t gone up this fast. I’ve found that the higher you climb, the more scrutiny you can get when running non-meta or experimental builds, even in Quick Play. It’s not constant, but it does create a bit of pressure to stick to optimized loadouts if you want to avoid comments in match chat.

That said, I still recommend experimenting with your mechs. Just be mindful about spending. MC, C-Bills, and Mech Bays are limited early on, so try to be selective. If a mech just isn’t clicking with you, don’t be afraid to sell it for the bay space.

Thanks to the St. Patrick’s Day and Easter events, I’ve been able to grow my hangar to 21 mech bays, and a friend gifted me the Dragoon Pack for my birthday, which added 4 more. That gives me plenty of variety to keep things fresh. I can see how long-time players end up with a surplus of bays from events, but I figure I’m at least a year out from hitting that point myself.

So far, I’m really enjoying my time in MWO. The learning curve is real, but adapting to player expectations at higher tiers has been a rewarding part of the experience.

It took the Stone Rhino and the Bullshark to be released as available for cbux for them to start getting nerfs, though the latter hasn't took much a hit because IS XL apparently excuses it having as much armor as 100t on top of the 95t agility and speed, Corsair has similar durability sure but it has its different issues like weird hitbox (getting hit on the rear LT from the front seems to be an occuring thing on them) and less hardpoint bloat.

Hey everyone,

I'm a newer player who started my first game back in January of this year. Since then, I’ve put in about 100 hours and spent a good amount of time in the MechLab tinkering with different builds. I also purchased two mechs from an older bundle to support the game.

That said, I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock—my friends keep talking about past grab bag or loot events, but as a new player, I don’t have access to those. The lack of Mech Bays is starting to be a real struggle. I know I can get some through Faction Play, but finding enough people online for it has been tough.

Lately, I’ve been logging in hoping to work toward something, but with no events happening and only 10 bays, I feel like I’m stuck playing the same mechs over and over. It would really help if there was a clearer schedule or if the “Future Events” tab was updated regularly so I’d know what to expect moving forward.

I love the game and want to keep playing, but I don’t want to burn out just grinding with the same mechs every day. Any chance we could get more transparency on upcoming events or ways for new players to earn Mech Bays more consistently?

Thanks!

I have like 20 empty Mech bays lol

years ago they had an e-mail list but I don't think it ever worked

a good idea would be a event e-mail notice that way more people would be guaranteed to participate
