This would be hard to implement. Reason, you make a custom decal, all we see is a blob? The "custom decals" need to be downloaded to each and every player for it to load as intended.Server side stuff can be changed with no download. Spawn locations for example. This comes from my experience of server side modding battlefield 1942.

I am playing War Dust and there players have their steam avatar on their back. That's where I got the idea from. It's doable and I wouldn't mind dishing out some cash for that.

Nor would I, could be that it's something between that game and steam. I for one don't run out of steam, using the MOW launcher instead. (I don't agree with steams license.)

there are people who would do custom decals for real cash. would give the community a creative outlet. id also have ones for units that all members of said unit can use, probibly more expensive.

given the way the game works, these decals would need to be submitted and bundled into each patch. there would be size constraints, someone would have to vet them for obvious reasons.

just put a custom dekkle form in the store, you pay, you submit your graphics. if it passes muster it gets added to the game. you might have the option to make it available to everyone for a discount (others would still have to buy it for mc, the person who posted it gets it as part of the deal). exclusive decals for you or your unit would be a little more expensive. you might also be able to buy a bunch of gift codes to give them to friends. making it an mc sink sweatens the deal for pgi.

It's a nice idea from a revenue perspective. Currently the only way to get custom decals is to place in top 12 for Championship Series. This is something Tiyos specifically brought back to the game. It used to be a thing early on, but one artist made a stink about keeping rights, revenue sharing or something, and PGI back then canned the whole practice (it takes one idiot). That said, all the top 12 teams sign over the rights for their custom decals (and believe me, plenty of us commissioned the work) so we could have our unit decals in game. I don't imagine that changing. Also keep in mind that symbology that could be twisted has been a hard no in the past. To give you an idea.... there have been asks for a simple lightning bolt (the current one has a triangle around it). Why hasn't it been added? Because, Google "double lightning bolt" and see what you find. Again, it takes one idiot to screw things up.

you would need to do some kind of copyright terms in the form (decal under x license, pgi has permission to distribute decal in mwo, yada yada legalese). and the aforementioned vetting. probibly a lawyer to amend the eula to reflect the rights of the decal artists. the legal nightmare is possibly the worst part of it.

PGI already has something in place is my point, the top 12 teams from the last 2 years went through the process. I don't see it altering for community submitted decals, if such a thing were deemed worth the time.

The point of my story was that it took a single artist taking issue with the custom decals rights (and these were for WC, not even community) to try to negotiate and it wasn't worth PGI's time so they canned it.

How about fixing the newer decals so they don't look jaggy when scaled down?
I mean have you seen the Spectre's bonus decal? At smaller size (which you'd want for detailing/squeezing it somewhere where it doesn't get ruined by a vehicle's panel lines) the damn thing looks jaggy as it gets. Older decals don't seem to have as much of an issue with this (hazard stripes my beloved).

Oh also a better way to rotate decals would be nice, like a box that you just type the rotation (degrees) you'd want instead of tapping your keyboard.
