Murder Ball

What - Form a ball of mechs and use it to demolish thy foes.

Why - Simple tactic to co-ordinate

Ideal Mechs - Faster, short to mid range mechs

How to use this tactic well - Your murder ball must continually move forward as a team, continually outnumbering the enemy. The lead mechs should switch as the frontal mech takes damage. Your lighter mechs in addition to scouting should provide a skirmish screen to the rear.

How to fail hard using this tactic - Stop.... A stopped murderball is a dead murderball. You are just letting your enemies surround you and deny you any chance of using cover. A murderball only works while it is rolling. Soon as you stop, you are just blocking each other's lines of fire, allowing the enemy to cover from a single direction while taking fire from multiple directions yourself.

NasCar

What - A variant of Murder ball where you head round the edge of the map instead of straight forward.

Why - Several maps have nice crevices round the edges to hide in.

Ideal Mechs - Faster, short to mid range mechs

How to use this tactic well - As well as keeping moving, the nascar needs to know when to turn. The point of the nascar is NOT to keep going all the way round the edge of the map. The Nascar needs to cut across at the right time to intercept the with many mechs cresting at the right time together to catch the enemy in the open.

How to fail hard using this tactic - This is a hard tactic to get right as it requires the Nascar to cut centrally at the right time. If the Nascar keeps going round the map, it's tail is going to get caught and picked off 1 by 1. If it stops, its basically same as a stopped murder ball, asking to be flanked and murdered. Make sure slower mechs aren't left behind to die.

Hammer and Anvil

What - Two teams, one blocks the enemy advance, one flanks the enemy.

Why - Allows different types of mechs to be used together effectively.

Ideal Mechs - Combined arms.

How to use this tactic well - Actually one of the easiest tactics to use, since it tends to be much like what people do naturally. Slow mechs move to face the enemy head on, but fight very conservatively to avoid losses. Flanking force engages from rear, as they do blocking force goes aggressive, catching enemy between two forces.

How to fail hard using this tactic - If the flanking force engages too quickly or if the blocking force does not go aggressive when the flanking force engages, allowing the enemy to focus on one group at a time. If the blocking force is too clumped up, this is also bad as it allows the enemy to slip sideways and blocks friendly lines of fire.

The Line

What - A defensive line forms, preventing the enemy from pushing through without taking massive casualties.

Why - Hard to defeat if played intelligently

Ideal Mechs - Solid mid/long range mechs + a few faster brawlers

How to use this tactic well - Somewhat more terrain dependent than most, but if you have the terrain, you can force the enemy to take massive damage while closing. This does rely on the team making sure they have good shared lines of fire to stop friendly mechs getting isolated. If the enemy does push, the focal point of the line should fall back while all other points of the lines advance, folding the line around the enemy push.

How to fail hard using this tactic - Fail to prevent enemy flanking forces from getting round the line. Since you are in a line, its relatively easy for a flanking force to roll up one side and take out your gun-line 1 mech at a time. Prevent this at all costs.

Other "tactics"

Camp and die - Most of team decides to sit in their chosen location and not help anyone else. Entire team ends up facing enemy team 4+ v 1 because no-one is supporting each other.

Charge and camp - Entire team runs forward and then stops somewhere and waits to get flanked.

Everyone run away from the fatty - One of two slow mechs just get left behind to get murdered. Love and protect thy fatties.

That's a lot of text to say "the storm spins counter-clockwise". Posted Image Posted Image We know what the storm is going to do; what matters is what you are going to do within that storm.
