8 Vs 8 Quickplay Queue Adjustment

LIMITED TIME


Greetings MechWarriors,


We're planning a 10-day 8v8 Quick Play Queue Match Making change.

We’re aware that search times have been trending upwards—especially during these summer months when many players are out and about rather than in-game.

To help reduce search times, we considered two options: reducing match team sizes or widening the Tier gates. We’re going with a temporary reduction to 8v8, which maintains the current Tier gates while scaling things down.

Widening the Tier gates could speed up matchmaking, but at the cost of overall match quality—something we believe is the less attractive option.

For the first 5 days of the event, we’ll be limiting group size to 3 players. For the remainder of the event, the group limit will return to 4 players.


EVENT TIMES

  • The Quickplay 8v8 will begin on Friday, August 8th at 12PM PST / 7PM UTC.
  • On Wednesday, August 13th at 12PM PST / 7PM UTC, max Quick Play group size will return to 4.
  • On Monday, August 18th at 12PM PST / 7PM UTC, Quick Play will return to 12v12.

This feels like going back to the older days, when it use to be 8v8 only. I... can't complain.

problem is the maps are bigger for the 12vs12 not like teh old days when River city was the smallest map in the game...

Alpine Peaks and Tourmaline Desert have largely remained unchanged from the days of 8v8, I don't recall it being that much of a problem.

8v8 will increase time to kill, but a lot of 'mechs will not be tuned for it.

Can we confirm a limit to ONLY 1 group? Atm you can have a 3+2 or 2+2 in the 12v12. If we have a 3+2 in 8v8 it will be horrible for the other team.

Can we get a 2x-3x CBill and Exp bonus for the duration of the 8v8? That'll make it more appealing to play during that time.

By the way, I can tell you one reason why " search times have been trending upwards" .

It is because of that stupid two phase Summer Loot bags event. Since the damage that I might do now would not count towards the Phase 02 damage goal, it is pointless for me to keep playing. Essentially, my efforts would be wasted. The only logical course of action is to ignore MWO for the next three weeks and start playing again AFTER that useless Phase 02 begins. I guess I am not alone who understands this simple principle.

And do you know what really smart players do? They have been ignoring MWO right from the start for the entire July and the most of August, waiting for that useless Phase 02 to begin, so both their Match Score and damage really count.

This entire problem is really a problem of your own making.

Reset the PSR again. That always speeds up matches, plus reminds the vocal minority that they aren't being punished by MM, they are being protected.

During the loot bag event? Not a great idea.
The event was the only reason I was playing, and this is a 10 day gap where even loot bags are not worth it. See ya in a few weeks it seems.

8v8 with groups of 4? Is the game not unbalanced enough for you yet? Sweaties need to keep their group size to protect their precious Jarls it seems.

This entire problem is really a problem of your own making.

Actually, for anyone who is not Top-Tier Elite in standing, it's a major mistake to not be in the Quick Play queue already, and therefore the fault is no more than 35% on PGI's shoulders, if any at all. After all, the MWO game really is more player-driven than anything else at this point, and people not being queued up to battle is only hurting the entire player base in general. Anyone wanting their Match Score & Damage Dealt to finish right around the same time should currently be already active, and building up Match Score to at least 40% of the needed final total before Phase 2 begins on everyone. That way, they would not find themself having to thoroughly over-grind simply so they could reach that Match Score total after their Damage Dealt is completed. Yes there may be a little bit of discarded Damage Dealt happening, but it's certainly a lot better than having to go around and over-grind later along. I am personally in queue every time opportunity presents itself currently, and all because I mentally woke up regarding this little-known truth which needs spreading to everyone. Which also reminds me that we can't forget the infamous fact of wanting to avoid being run into mental insanity, particularly when most of those Top-Tier Elite rejoin the Quick Play Queues later on and start stomping everyone else. After all, not all of us can play with those who do the best, and it's better if we get done early, followed by scooting out of their way! ;)

Now with that said, if PGI really wants literally everyone to be in Quick Play right at this moment? Then yeah, it might help to start an Event which includes NARC/TAG challenges with sweet rewards attached. I know that's something everyone would find me sinking my sweet tooth into! Perhaps it would help if I go draft an Event Idea surrounding such a premise? (Damn... that's gonna take me time!) ^_^

Battletech is, arguably, more popular than it has ever been. The minis are the #2 selling TT war game, behind 40k. The Battletech PC game was a huge hit. And here we are, MechWarrior has, arguably, never been less popular than it is now.

Almost as if when PGI and the Cauldron take the game further from Battletech the less popular it becomes. But they will defend 6ERLL blue beam spammers at 2k ranges inside ECM bubbles to the end. Jarls are more important then players it seems.

Not even close, If we discount Sigmar then Legion/Armada, Marvel, Bolt action etc all out sell BT. Thing with Catalyst is they don't produce 90% of the stuff people want (not including unseen) so almost everything is printed or third party.
