I`ve been playing a little over a year and I am currently Tier 2. This game does have a horrible learning curve. When I was new I died constantly, i was also having insane fun. This was before I knew about tiers and really anything about the game. I started watching youtube videos of streamers and learned what they do. It`s surprisingly easy to improve your play.

I'm going to preface my response by saying I am not and never have been a gamer. I've got more hours playing MWO than every other game put together for my entire 55 years.

However, the above perfectly describes my experience over the last couple months.

I still suck something awful, according to my stats I die 4x for every 1x kill. It's getting better though. I'm developing map and general game awareness, both things that are helpful in knowing where the red guys might be and knowing where my team is and where everyone might go. I'm getting better at controls and heat management. I'm getting better at understanding what the roll of my mech is. I'm just generally getting a little better.

Sometimes I just come around the wrong corner, sometimes I hesitate for just a moment too long, but most times I lose sight of the long game and just go all in when I shouldn't. Sometimes, you get a team that clicks, most of the time you're lucky to have a lances worth that hold it all together.

The reason the game seems so tough to learn is actual time piloting and fighting. I'm sure my actual game play is a very small percentage of log in time. I remember how frustrating it was(is?) to try and lessen my learning curve 2 minutes at a time but waiting 10-15 minutes to start over. I remember the first match I actually survived to the end.

Perhaps if there was an optional training ground with bot enemies? But then would I still be spending all my time there because it was easier than dealing with the uncertainty of other people? The games I grew up with were all based on patterns, once you learned those you mastered the game. Boring.

I guess I just have decided to take the whole thing as a personal challenge, especially since 95% of the time my non-success is something I did wrong and no one else's fault. I remember it's just a video game and I need to put my big boy pants on and get better.

YMMV

Normally, i'd ignore this and move on but this time.

To ignore it or even not speak of it is to say we did not try it and learn a lesson from it , by doing such we leave the door for it to happen again....

I'm pretty sure that lesson was learned over a decade ago.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Without any more context it's hard to tell you what went wrong and what could have been better.
A question though: you're talking about a "major event", did you play in the event queue or the quick play queue? Because there is no matchmaking in the event queue. In quick play you'll find yourself in a much safer environment, without the strongest players.
Also, MWO might take a little time in order to get the basics.

Anyway, on the end it's your call if you want to persevere or not.

I do agree with him to some extent in the quick play que . It is a little unfair to have mechs that could be fully skilled with players who are very good even though they are tier 5. However I played through the 25 games purchased a mech with all the bonuses i earned it is fully skilled sometimes I have very good games sometimes very poor games but that is becuase i am still learning. plus i make mistakes still also sometimes you just come up against a team that wants to be all individuals and the game dont work
