I haven't messed with mine yet, but they look XL friendly - like a cross between the Crusader and the IS Shadowhawk. For Clantech, with a Medium, I'm definitely defaulting to XL engines.

They're 45 tonners; we shouldn't expect them to be beefy. This 'mech is one that really needs to follow the combined-arms school of Medium combat, where your job is to add your firepower to other 'mechs that are already engaged. I've been dealing with real life stuff, and so I still haven't been able to field my chassis - just set them up for whenever I get a few hours free - but like the Gauntlet, if the 'mechs don't perform well, they'll get buffed. You have to give them a chance and realize that we're birds on a wire right now, as it were.

Well unless they rescale the mech i think it needs 1x more the armor bonus it has currently.

Initial impressions are that it's a very bouncy mid-speed Medium - you don't want to be taking damage, and you have the mobility to hit people from a lot of odd places. I actually haven't had enough matches with high incoming damage/death to evaluate the XL-friendliness of the chassis.

I threw an XL 285 in the config I'm running currently and it's an absolute hoot!
As far as durability goes, I'm not the one to say as I frequently have a habit of dying regardless of loadout.
As you said it's bouncy and reasonably fast so on maps that let me move around in cover I've been having pretty good games.

Squishiness aside, the mech rolls damage very well and would be XL friendly even if not clan...

That being said, there could be an argument for a standard engine on the SHD-IIC-B, that has the potential to be a good zombie with its 3 missiles hardpoints in the CT+head.
But...
As I said, the mech rolls the damage really well and by the time your side torsos are dead your CT probably will be fairly damaged.
(not to mention STD makes the mech slower)
