Time to reduce or get rid of them? The entire idea of it was to push players into playing more to grind cbills and maybe using cash to help speed it up in the early phase of the game when pop was high and spending rampant.

Well we are loooooong past that phase of the game and I'd safely say the absolute majority of the remaining players WANT to play more but hate the cbill grind. Reduce or remove the cost or pay for it once then you can freely go between double and single sinks or endo or standard etc.

Same with the mechs and weapons. Why make us grind when all we want to do is play since we no longer have a steady stream of newbies to milk?

Opinions?

Of all the people to complain about the cost of equipment and conversions, I would not have picked you to voice it. I'm certain you have a NSR-10P or SNS-D tucked away somewhere to farm cbills if you really had to.

The system exists because that's how it is in lore, you can't just wave your magic wand and make significant changes to your 'Mech for free.

That being said "muh lore" is not a good enough reason to hold onto a bad mechanic. But is it a bad mechanic needing an immediate remedy in the context of a free to play game? I don't think so, particularly considering how much free stuff we get

I have almost 2 billion cbills and more mc and gsp than I could ever spend so this isn't for me at all. But I know hard core players who are completely broke on all three because they grind lots of mechs. I mean bear claw is one of them and I'm sure he would enjoy not having to grind an outdated money making mechanic. Also think about the few newbies we do get to join the game? Do you want them to get bored of grinding and walk away or reasonably quickly able to get new mechs and fit and skill them out? Keeping players right now seems a good idea so that the few remaining whales have something to shoot at with their cash shop purchases. No one is going to buy legends if they log in and have to wait 10 minutes for a 3 minute blowout. Reducing or removing the cost isn't going to change any gameplay meta. Just the willingness to log in and play.

While that is a viable short term workaround if you are short on funds the 50% return rate on cbills makes it a losing proposition in the long term with the diminishing returns. They cut costs on the skill tree to make it more accessible so this would only make sense too. No need to even completely cut it out just reduce it so that a short grind gets you the stuff you need instead of a long one.

I wouldn't mind it being reduced on repeat swaps to/from Ferro/Endo/Sink size, but to be honest engine costs are the main filter for tinkerers. I certainly don't have a full collection of Clan XLs and IS XLs/LFEs.

To be fair if you want to tinker there is always mechdb to play around in. But sooner or later you are going to want to build it.

dont really care one way or the other, i have a quarter billion cbills at any given time, and that was after buying six firemoths. i dont hesitate when changing my sinks or buying an engine i dont have. if cbills become a problem i can liquidate my weapons surplus inventory. how am i going to equip a thousand medium lasers?

new players are who this hurts, and frankly the game is hurting for players so anything that brings in fresh meat is good. you buy enough stuff you get more free stuff and eventually come out with an infinite cbill printer, and if thats not enough get premium time, a cbill boosted mech and play eq when its available.

now i wouldnt mind being able to pull up a list of builds and change them on the fly quickly via a drop down box without going to my spread sheets to find the right build code and pasting it into the mechlab. you only pay the upfront cost when you make a build, but once its made you can load it again for free and you can revert the mech to the default build for free. then you just have to pay once per build.
