For some reason they're suggested by MWO, why? What's the purpose if we can't buy them?

And strangely enough, there's no possibility to buy them in the Store in-game

To give new players some fighting chance when competing with other - fully mastered - 'Mechs in the game. Trial 'Mechs have a skill tree baked into the Quirks, while the original Champion 'Mechs were totally unskilled.

Yes.

So new players have some incentive to spend their cash on the game. They can buy exactly the same 'Mech in the store and duplicate their favorite Trial 'Mech - loadout, livery, quirks and all.
