It's not really an MMO so much as a MOBA style game. This means "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena", and is now the genre type for games such as League of Legends or Dota 2. This will be similar to those, but with MechWarrior combat on the very good CryEngine3.(Beautiful graphics and effects) It is not an MMO. MMO typically means that hundreds of players can be in the same area at one time with a character to stand around or fight. MOBA, which is what this is, means that the scales are much smaller. 24 max players in a game is not "massive". I've been in MMO battlegrounds that have had more than that just on 1 side. That's "massive". 12 vs 12 is MOBA, 40 vs 40 is massive. See the difference? If they had Mech battles that big then you could call it massive, but with these graphics no PC in the world would run that, lol.

i don´t think this comparison is right... you can compare it more to games like combat arms, maybe battlefield if the maps are becoming bigger with bigger teams... its not sending one or more more mechs into an arena, controlling them from an upside down view or klicking some skills like in arena games... its a shooter/ mechsim (fps/ mmofps), not more and not less...

lol this is not an MMO. It's a 8v8 (maybe more or less) multiplayer online game. A Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game is is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. This game has approx. 16 players simultaneously in an environment, not hundreds or thousands. This game is simply a online multiplayer game.

As for the term "MOBA" that's relatively new and a term coined by LoL I believe. I suppose this would fit into it, but MWO and LoL are really just online multiplayer games.

Correct at this time, though with everything the devs want to get into the game at some point, I'd be surprised if there weren't ultimately some PVE elements however this will always primarily be a PvP game.

The goal is 12 v12 with various kinds of matches. As the game grows past launch, we can expext more in the way of community warfare where we are engaged for variuos house goals. One can expect to see different mechs to fulfill different roles on the battlefield, so there is no reason for an arms race for the heaviest mech. Expect to see tactics and lance/teamwork take center stage. It will be as important to fulfill your role and assignment on the battlefield than to run a up a high kill score -hopefully more important! Expect to see combat in large fighting robots at the company level (12 mechs in 4 lances). That puts the fighting up close and personal, right where most of us want it.
